Engine, train car derail at Eastman

March 24th, 2007 9:48 pm by Staff report

KINGSPORT - An engine and one car derailed while they were being moved on Eastman Chemical Co. property Saturday afternoon.

Eastman spokesperson Cynthia Heglar said the engine derailed about 3:15 p.m. near the Wilcox overpass and building 393.

A small amount of diesel fuel spilled from the locomotive.

"That was contained and a crew is in the process of getting the engine back up on the track," Heglar said about two hours after the derailment.

There were no injuries and the car remained upright. Nothing spilled from it, Heglar said.

Rail Link contracted the engine for use by Eastman.

"We're in the process of investigating the whole incident," Heglar said.

On March 13, three empty tank cars derailed at Eastman.
