UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Rick DiPietro turned aside 37 shots, and the New York Islanders snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 Thursday night.
Trent Hunter, Jason Blake and Viktor Kozlov scored for the Islanders after spotting the Penguins a 1-0 lead. The Islanders moved one point ahead of Toronto and into 10th place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. They trail Carolina and Montreal - at the playoff cutoff - by one point.
BOSTON - Tomas Plekanec and Chris Higgins each had a goal and two assists to lift Montreal over Boston.
Montreal scored five unanswered goals in the last 22 minutes and swept the home-and-home series after shutting out Boston 1-0 Tuesday.
Mike Johnson, Maxim Lapierre and Higgins put the game away when they each scored 2:16 apart in the third period.
TAMPA, Fla. - Martin St. Louis scored twice in the third period and Marc Denis made 34 saves overall to lead Tampa Bay past New Jersey.
Eric Perrin stole an errant pass before setting up St. Louis' first goal that gave the Lightning a 2-1 advantage at 9:42 of the third. St. Louis made it 3-1 with 6:16 left, netting his 41st goal of the season. Vincent Lecavalier assisted for his 500th NHL point.
RALEIGH, N.C. - Eric Staal and Andrew Ladd scored in the first two minutes of the third period as Carolina rallied to beat Washington.
The Hurricanes, who had not played in four days, dominated most aspects of the game. The Capitals, who lost at Buffalo on Wednesday, were outshot 39-10 by the Hurricanes.
Alex Ovechkin scored twice for Washington, notching his second multi-goal game in six contests.
DETROIT - Sergei Fedorov's goal in the third extra round of the shootout gave Columbus a win over Detroit.
David Vyborny and Rick Nash also scored in the shootout for Columbus. Pavel Datsyuk and Dan Cleary netted Detroit's shootout goals.
Datsyuk scored in regulation and Chris Osgood made 29 saves for Detroit, which had Todd Bertuzzi in the lineup for the first time since he was acquired by the Red Wings from Florida at last month's trade deadline.
ATLANTA - Jonathan Cheechoo scored three goals, Milan Michalek had one and set up two others, and linemate Joe Thornton had three assists in San Jose's victory that ended Atlanta's franchise-record, home-winning streak at seven.
San Jose, which has won seven of eight, also got a goal from Bill Guerin.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Marian Gaborik scored twice and linemate Pavol Demitra had a goal and two assists as Minnesota won its franshise-record eighth consecutive game.
Demitra set up both of Gaborik's goals and scored on an assist from Gaborik. The pair has combined for 66 points in Minnesota's last 24 games.
SUNRISE, Fla. - Ray Emery made 35 saves to lead Ottawa over Florida.
