ROGERSVILLE - The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office charged a man with domestic assault and animal cruelty early Saturday morning for allegedly attacking a teenage girl with a live kitten.
Neither the girl nor the kitten was seriously injured.
HCSO Sgt. Tony Allen was dispatched to a domestic assault complaint at 165 Pinhook Road shortly before 1 a.m Saturday, where he was met by a 15-year-old girl.
The girl was spending the night with an uncle at that residence, and the suspect, Jamie Edward Soderdahl, 34, also resides at that address.
"(The victim) said she was asleep on the couch, and she was awakened by Jamie pulling her off the couch onto the floor," Allen stated in his report. "(The victim) said she was startled and picked up a broom to defend herself from Jamie. At this time Jamie picked up a small kitten and ‘slung' it at her, assaulting her with it.
"Jamie then came up to her and pushed her to the ground."
Soderdahl allegedly admitted to Allen he'd pulled the girl off the couch because "she was not sleeping the way she was told to do so."
Allen stated that he also observed the injured kitten "favoring its rear leg."
The girl was allowed to stay in the custody of her uncle, while Soderdahl was taken to jail.
Soderdahl was released on bond Saturday afternoon and is scheduled for arraignment in Hawkins County Sessions Court on March 28.
