Tennessee Technology Centerhosting 'Nursing Needs You'

ELIZABETHTON - About 100 high school juniors and seniors from Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties will learn "what is takes to be a nurse" at the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton today.


The special "Nursing Needs You" event is designed to give an overview of postsecondary nursing education to health occupation students, said Terri Blevins, director of the practical nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton.


Students will be given an overview of the Practical Nursing Program curriculum, information on admission procedures, the Nursing Entrance Test, financial assistance, and how to apply for the $1,500 Tennessee Lottery Scholarship, They will also meet with nursing instructors and participate in teaching exercises with nursing students. Representatives of Mountain States Health Alliance and Wellmont Health System will also participate in the event.


Each year, TTC-Elizabethton accepts an average of 370 students to the 12-month Practical Nursing Program, which prepares graduates for the State Board of Nursing exam to become a licensed practical nurse. TTC offers practical nursing classes during the day and evening in Elizabethton and during the day on the East Tennessee State University at Kingsport campus near Allandale.
