Schaefer goal seals Ottawa's win

OTTAWA - Peter Schaefer scored the winning goal and Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots in the Ottawa Senators' 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.


The Senators moved ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins into fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Dany Heatley saw his 16-game scoring streak (11-13-24) end for Ottawa, which went 0-for-7 on the power play.



MONTREAL - Saku Koivu and Andrei Kostitsyn scored in the shootout after both scored in regulation, lifting Montreal over Toronto.


The win drew Montreal even with Toronto at 78 points in the race for the final two Eastern Conference playoff berths.



EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Chad LaRose scored two goals for the first time and Carolina sent Martin Brodeur to the bench with four goals on its first 12 shots in a victory over New Jersey.


The Hurricanes remained in an Eastern Conference playoff spot with nine games left in the regular season.



SUNRISE, Fla. - Olli Jokinen scored two third-period goals to help Florida beat New York.


Ed Belfour, who stopped 28 shots, made his 23rd consecutive start for Florida, breaking the franchise record.



NEW YORK - Ryan Callahan scored his first two NHL goals, and Matt Cullen added two and an assist during New York's six-goal second period.
