Jonesville woman charged with attempted extortion

JONESVILLE - A Jonesville woman was indicted by the Lee County grand jury on an attempted extortion charge Monday in Lee County Circuit Court.


Authorities said Margie Helen Leedy, 50, Route 2, Jonesville, attempted to extort $1,500 from her brother-in-law, Ted Leedy.


Margie Leedy allegedly placed an anonymous note in her relative's mailbox advising that he'd been watched over the past three months, and he should place $1,500 in unmarked bills inside an envelope and put it in a red mailbox near his home by 6 p.m.


"If you don't do what we say you'll be sorry," the note read in part. It further advised that "if you don't do this you'd better stay home 24/7."


The writer also advised the man to keep his mouth shut and to burn the note after delivering the cash.


Others indicted Monday, and their charges, include:


•Matthew Clark, 24, 819 E. Morgan Ave., Pennington Gap, utter forged prescription and conspiracy.


•Katheren Sue Coomer, 47, P.O. Box 231, Pennington Gap, one count distribute oxycodone and two counts distribute hydrocodone.


•Patsy Dickerson, 52, 2313 Dryden Heights Road, Dryden, three counts bad checks.


•Vickie Fannon, 22, P.O. Box 121, Dryden, two counts forgery, two counts utter, one count grand larceny.


•Sue Leber, 40, Route 1, Box 220-A, St. Charles, receive stolen property.


•Gary Pridemore, 36, Snavley Subdivision, P.O. Box 224, Ewing, possess methamphetamine, possess hydrocodone, distribute marijuana.


•Tina Shaw, age and address unavailable, utter forged prescription, conspire,


•Jennifer Lynn Sidwell, 24, Route 2, Box 395-15, Pennington Gap, embezzlement.


An indictment is not an indication of guilt, and trials for the accused will be scheduled at a later date.
