Prep roundup: Science Hill's Owens swims to gold at state meet

NASHVILLE - Science Hill sophomore Kyle Owens captured gold Friday when he cruised to victory in the 200-yard freestyle at the Tennessee state swimming and diving championships at the Tracy Caulkins Competition Pool at the Centennial Sportsplex.


Owens won in a stellar time of 1:39.77, almost two seconds ahead of the field. His time earned him All-America honors in the event.


Sullivan South junior Kristiana Feeser finished eighth in the girls' 100 freestyle with a time of 58.24.


The meet concludes today.


Girls Basketball


Tennessee High 50, Jefferson County 35


BRISTOL, Tenn. - Ashton Bishop scored 14 points as the Lady Vikings captured a Region 1-AAA quarterfinal victory over the Lady Patriots at Viking Hall.


Tennessee High advances to take on Science Hill on Monday at 6 p.m. in the regional tournament semifinals at Sullivan South.


Leading by seven at the half, the Lady Vikes (28-5) broke open the game in the third quarter by outscoring Jefferson County 15-4. The Lady Patriots (13-18) found themselves down 42-24 starting the fourth quarter.


Danielle Montgomery added 10 points for Tennessee High.



Science Hill 43, Morristown West 26


MORRISTOWN - The Lady Hilltoppers saved their best for last.


Leading 31-25 after three quarters, Science Hill outscored the Lady Trojans 12-1 in the fourth period to seal a Region 1-AAA quarterfinal victory.


Jordan Douglas and Jaimee Hill scored 14 points each to lead the Lady 'Toppers (26-8).


Morristown West (15-15) had no players in double figures.







Metro Christian 51, Cedar View 29


NASHVILLE - Rachel Raby scored 19 points as Metro Christian Academy upended the Lady Seahawks in the semifinals of the Tennessee Athletic Association of Christian Schools tournament.


Metro jumped on top 12-3 after the first period and never let Cedar View Christian (21-8) back in the contest.


Tori Fugate led the Lady 'Hawks with 17 points.




Lighthouse 65, Adventist 40


GREENEVILLE - Anisa Crawford and Kristen Cradic had 16 points each as the Lady Knights downed homestanding Greeneville Adventist.


Ashley Sexton added 12 points for Lighthouse Christian (18-6) with teammate Tiffany Peters chipping in 11.




Boys


Adventist 83, Lighthouse 70


GREENEVILLE - Lighthouse Christian fell behind early and never recovered in the loss to Greeneville Adventist.


Cory Godsey led Lighthouse (21-8) with 24 points with Chris McMurray adding 18 and Micah Smith 10.
