BRISTOL, Tenn. - Leitner Pharmaceuticals LLC, headquartered in Bristol, Tenn., has been federally approved to designate its distribution center in Piney Flats as a general purpose operator within Foreign Trade Zone No. 204, Site 5. The U.S. Foreign Trade Zone is a federal program designed to equalize costs between international and domestic competitors. An FTZ is an authorized location where foreign and domestic materials and merchandise are considered to be outside of U.S. Customs territory. Because goods imported into an FTZ are generally free of customs duties until they enter into the U.S. market, companies utilizing FTZ services can achieve significant savings and efficiencies. "We welcome Leitner and their global trade efforts," said Mark Canty, trade development specialist with the Tri-Cities Airport Commission. "With this approval, their distribution center will be the only active FTZ general purpose facility within a 60-mile radius of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Port No. 2027," he said. The port is located at Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville. Leitner Pharmaceuticals is under contract with Graceway Pharmaceuticals LLC to distribute pharmaceutical products to Latin America, Mexico and Canada. Leitner Distribution currently offers warehousing and distribution for a variety of products. Leitner Pharmaceuticals is a wholly owned subsidiary of SJ Strategic Investments LLC.
