Prep boys: Hood pours in 34 points, helps rally War Eagles past Pioneers

EWING - Adam Hood scored 17 of his game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter, and Rye Cove erased a 10-point, second-half deficit to pick up a 74-69 Cumberland District victory over Thomas Walker on Friday night.


John Franklin added 14 points while Brandon Tomlinson chipped in 11 for the War Eagles (15-8, 7-3), the district's second-place team heading into postseason play .


Robby Giles led the Pioneers (12-10, 3-7) with a career-high 21 points and recorded 13 rebounds. Landon Smith and Justin Helton added 12 points each.


Castlewood 72, Ervinton 40


CASTLEWOOD - The top-ranked Blue Devils rolled to over the Rebels to cap an unbeaten run the the Cumberland District.


Chris Smith led Castlewood (20-1, 10-0) with 18 points while Drew Justice scored 16. Brad McReynolds added 15 points and 10 boards. Cody Lawson also pulled down 10 rebounds.


Adam Kiser was a bright spot for Ervinton (3-17, 0-10), finishing with a game-high 20 points.


J.I. Burton 72, Appalachia 52


NORTON - Jaycob Coleman had 14 points, 12 assists and 10 steals to finish with a triple-double and lead the Raiders past the Bulldogs in Lonesome Pine District action.


Pat Begley was the top scorer for J.I. Burton (13-9, 11-3) with 15 points, while Ethan Stewart added 12 points and 15 rebounds. Adam Middleton dominated on defense by blocking eight shots.


Bud Allen paced Appalachia (5-17, 4-10) with 15 points and 12 boards.



Clintwood 54, Coeburn 53, OT


COEBURN - Evan Vanover hit a 3-pointer with 1.5 ticks left in overtime to lift the Green Wave to an LPD win over the Blue Knights.


Vanover finished with a game-high 26 points to pace Clintwood (10-12, 5-9). Jordan Sloan pitched in 11 points for the Wave.


Andrew Pate's 19 points and Josh Buchanan's 15 were not enough to give Coeburn (7-14, 4-9) the win.


J.J. Kelly 48, Pound 41


WISE - Foul shots proved to be the difference in the game, as the Indians made more free throws than the Wildcats attempted in this hotly contested LPD tilt.


Devan Sproles scored 10 of his 17 points at the free throw line to lead Kelly (8-14, 6-7). Matt Hopkins tallied 11 points in the win.


Dustin Fleming paced Pound (6-15, 5-8) by scoring 15.




Sullivan Central 73, Unaka 67


ELIZABETHTON - The Cougars bounced back from a five-point deficit to defeat the Rangers on the road in non-conference action.


Led by Justin Hess' 20 points, Sullivan Central (20-11) put four players in double figures. Matt McCroskey added 14, Wes Baker 13 and Andrew McCann 12.


Brandon Roper turned a game-leading 28-point performance for Unaka.



Jellico 61, Clinch 54


JELLICO - The Blue Devils shook off a slow start to defeat the visiting Wildcats.


Ben Mitchell scored 22 points to pace Jellico.


Clinch's Dustin Murrell led all-scorers with 23 points. Tobey Norris chipped in 17 points.








Lighthouse 67, Appalachia Christian 40


KINGSPORT - Chase Vickers had 15 points, giving him 1,001 for his career, as the Knights downed visiting Appalachia Christian School.


Lighthouse Christian (20-3) placed 14 players in the scoring column in the contest.


Anthony Delucia led the Lions with 11 points.



Temple Baptist 57, Cedar View Christian 48


KINGSPORT - The Seahawks couldn't hold on to a three-point halftime lead and fell to the East Tennessee Christian Athletic Conference champions.


Temple Baptist (18-2, 9-0) got 26 points from Samuel Knickerbocker.


Colin Addington scored 22 points for Cedar View (10-18, 5-5), which will be the No. 4 seed when the tournament starts next Thursday.
