Prep girls: Kelly pulls away from Pound with 20-3 run

WISE - A third-quarter outburst put J.J. Kelly on the road to victory Friday night.


The Lady Indians outscored Pound 20-3 in the period and cruised to a 59-46 Lonesome Pine District win.


Sarah Saunders led J.J. Kelly (15-6, 10-3) with 15 points while Sam Brummette added 11. Kayli Bates pitched in with seven points and six steals.


Kearsten Boggs paced the Lady Wildcats (10-11, 5-8) with 15 points.


J.J. Kelly will host Coeburn tonight in a makeup game from Tuesday's snowout. The girls' game tips off at 7 p.m. with the boys' matchup to follow.


J.I. Burton 46, Appalachia 32


NORTON - The Lady Raiders exploded for 21 points in the final quarter to claim a whistle-filled LPD win over the Lady Bulldogs.


The teams combined to shoot a total of 56 foul shots on 45 combined team fouls.


Chelsea Forney led Burton (7-12, 5-9) with 14 points while Ashley Hunter added 13 and Ruth Oviatt 11.


Castlewood 67, Ervinton 41


CASTLEWOOD - Kayla Gordon dropped a game-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to guide the Lady Blue Devils to a Cumberland District win over the Lady Pioneers.


Shaina Hall added 12 points and seven steals for Castlewood (15-6, 8-2) while Kelsey Addington scored 10.


Kelly Rasnick and Autumn Bond led Ervinton (2-19, 1-9) with 15 and 13 points, respectively.


Rye Cove 70, Thomas Walker 58


EWING - Shasta Edwards scored 35 points to tie the Lady Eagles with Castlewood atop the Cumberland standings.


Christy Hood added 16 points and 17 rebounds for Rye Cove (17-5, 8-2) while Tiffany Gibson paced the Lady Pioneers with 21 points and 15 boards.


Brandy Vass added 10 points for Thomas Walker (6-14, 3-7).



Lee High 62, Marion 36


JONESVILLE - The Lady Generals outscored the Scarlet Hurricane 35-12 in the second and third quarters to come away with the Highlands District victory.


Carrie Huff pumped in 24 points to lead Lee High. Kristan Cooney and Jalan McPherson finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.


Providence 43, Seymour 41


SEYMOUR - The Lady Knights built an early lead and then held off a second-half charge by the Lady Commanders.


Rachel Boswell scored 12 points and Lindsie Yontz finished with 10 to lead Providence Christian (10-12).


Hannah Johnson led Seymour Christian (14-6) with a game-high 24 points.




Cedar View 51, Temple 42


KINGSPORT - Charity Vannoy scored 22 points to lead Cedar View Christian to a win over Temple Baptist that wrapped up the No. 2 spot in the East Tennessee Christian Athletic Conference.


The Lady Seahawks (18-7, 8-2) open ETCAC tournament play next Friday at Seymour Christian.


Tori Fugate added 12 points and Erica Gilliam 11 for Cedar View.



Mountain Empire 47, TCC 35


BLOUNTVILLE - Meghan Bickmore scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to guide the Lady Mountaineers past the Lady Eagles.


Brittany Camody added 14 points for Mountain Empire Christian (11-8).


Caroline Boswell and Laura Simpson scored 10 each for Tri-Cities Christian.




Lighthouse Christian 58, ACS 48


KINGSPORT - Kristen Cradic had 28 points as the Lady Knights upened the visiting Lady Lions.


Anisa Crawford added 14 points, 11 rebounds and six steals for Lighthouse Christian (16-5). Rachel Cradic chipped in 11 points for the Lady Knights.


Shaunee Garner led Appalachian Christian School with a game-high 34 points.
