It's a good thing and it just keeps getting better.
The 2007 Eastman Open volleyball tournament, held Jan. 27-28 in sites around the city, attracted its largest field ever.
According to Eastman Recreation's Joe Douthat there were 64 teams entered in this year's event.
"I've involved with the tournament for the past 17 years and this is by far the most teams we've ever had," said Douthat. "The popularity of volleyball in this area continues to grow and it shows in the support we get for this event."
Last year's tournament listed 54 entries up from the mid-40s in previous years.
"We're only limited by the number of sites available to us," said Douthat.
On Sunday, during the women's portion of the event, there were two courts for play at Robinson and Sevier Middle Schools along with two courts at Sullivan South and the Civic Auditorium. Three courts were in use at Dobyns-Bennett.
"It's 10 dollars to enter and you get to play volleyball all day," Douthat said. "Everyone really seems to have a good time."
