KINGSPORT - A Kingsport man was arrested Saturday after a daylong assault on his girlfriend, according to the Kingsport Police Department.
Jeremiah David Pannell, 21, who lives at Miller Village Apartments with the woman, allegedly choked her "over a long period of time," KPD Detective Randy Murray said Monday.
The argument apparently stemmed from problems in the couple's relationship, Murray said.
Pannell remained jailed over the weekend and was scheduled for an arraignment Monday morning.
He is charged with attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
Murray said the attempted murder charge came from choking Kimberly Richardson and telling her he was going to kill her, the kidnapping charge stemmed from Pannell preventing Richardson from leaving, and the aggravated assault was on Richardson's eight-month-old daughter.
Murray said Richardson was holding her child when she attempted to leave the apartment. Pannell allegedly grabbed her, and she fell to the ground, which caused injury to the child.
Murray said the assault finally ended when some of Pannell's relatives arrived at the apartment to check on Richardson.
"The were able to stop the assault that was ongoing," Murray said.
Police also served an outstanding warrant on Pannell charging him with forgery and identity theft, Murray said.
