Customer service training for the hospitality and tourism industry will be offered at no cost Feb. 6 at Mountain Empire Community College's Goodloe Center.
Bobbie Walker, director of customer service and industry relations for the Virginia Tourism Corporation, will offer two sessions of "Choosing Your Attitude ... The Essential First Step," a workshop to improve the skills of front-line employees and enable them to provide better customer service.
The workshops focus on the front line in order to improve the bottom line by providing techniques for creating a better working atmosphere and enhancing a visitor's experience. Although aimed at tourism-related businesses, any employer can use Walker's techniques to provide better customer service.
The program supplies the means to give front-line employees the confidence and support they need to shine as hosts. Employees will learn why customer service is beneficial and essential, not only to their employers but the well-being of their communities as well.
Walker's workshops assist awareness and knowledge of local attractions, history and culture that entice tourists to visit the area. Staff of hotels, museums, restaurants, visitors centers, chambers of commerce and other tourism-related businesses and organizations are encouraged to take advantage of Walker's programs.
Training sessions will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, and repeated from 2 to 4 p.m.
