Lodal seeking second term on Kingsport Board of Education

January 24th, 2007 11:51 pm by CHRISTAN M. THOMAS

KINGSPORT - Current Kingsport Board of Education Vice President Susan Lodal has officially thrown her hat in the ring to run for a second term.

Lodal filed a petition with the Sullivan County Election Office on Wednesday to seek re-election in May. She is the first candidate to do so, according to records from Gena Frye, administrator of elections.

"The past four years have been rewarding and fulfilling for me in serving the citizens of Kingsport on the Board of Education," Lodal said in a prepared release. "I know more about how to get things done and feel that I can continue to make a positive difference. I have worked hard to build relationships here in the community and across the state, and I will continue to work for the children of Kingsport."

Lodal is one of three BOE incumbents up for re-election this year. Others are current BOE President Dr. Randall Montgomery and Wally Boyd.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Montgomery and Boyd had picked up petitions to run but had not yet filed, according to Frye. A fourth person, Dr. John R. Hall, also picked up a petition but had not yet filed.

Lodal said there are several challenges facing the school system in the near future - including school funding concerns statewide - but she looks forward to continued service if re-elected.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Kingsport," said Lodal. "There are many exciting things happening in Kingsport, especially the construction of a new elementary school. It is also a critical time for the future of public education in Tennessee and, in particular, Kingsport City Schools. I am running for re-election because I would like the opportunity to continue my advocacy on behalf of the students in our community."
