ATLANTA - The National Center for the Improvement of Educational Assessment has elected Mark Musick to a three-year term on its board of directors. Musick holds the James H. Quillen Chair of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at East Tennessee State University's Claudius G. Clemmer College of Education, and he is president emeritus of the Southern Regional Education Board. Musick is one of eight directors who set policy for the NCIEA headquartered in Dover, N.H. The center has contracts with 16 states and sponsors national meetings of leading education and educational testing experts. It also serves as lead consultant on the nation's largest and most successful multi-state educational testing program - the New England Comprehensive Assessment Program - which has three states that have jointly developed and are using the same tests in grades 3-8. Musick was appointed by three U.S. secretaries of education to chair the governing board for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation's Report Card. His 15 years of service on that board is the longest in its history. In addition, he is a member of the ACT board of directors where he chairs the Corporate Development Committee and serves on the Executive Committee. ACT is one of America's largest educational testing organizations Musick was appointed as the Quillen Chair at ETSU in January 2006. Part of the Tennessee Chairs of Excellence program, it was funded by the late U.S. Rep. James H. Quillen, who represented the region in Washington, D.C., for 34 years after serving eight years in the Tennessee House.

For the eighth year, financial services firm Edward Jones was named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" by Fortune magazine in its Jan. 22 edition. Edward Jones ranked No. 29 overall and No. 9 on the best large-sized companies list. Over eight years, Edward Jones has finished in the top 10 for five years and had consecutive No. 1 rankings in 2002 and 2003. The magazine said Edward Jones, organized as a partnership, "has more U.S. offices (8,955) than Starbucks has cafes," also citing the 2006 number of limited partnerships being expanded from 4,535 to almost 12,000, or more than a third of employees. "As a firm, we have always believed that if we focus on doing what's right for our clients and our associates, we will be successful," Kingsport investment representative Rebecca L. Frazier said. "We respect and appreciate every associate whose work helps use to meet the needs of our clients. Clearly, the difference shows." Edward Jones in early December ranked No. 1 in Registered Rep. magazine's annual brokerage report card for the 14th consecutive year, and it also was No. 3 among the "50 Best Employers in Canada" in the Globe and Mail's annual listing in Report on Business Magazine and first in J.D. Power and Associates' annual survey of customer satisfaction among full-service investors.
