Commodity distributions planned throughout region

The Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency will begin commodity distributions this week in Kingsport, Bristol, Rogersville, Johnson City, Erwin, Greeneville, Elizabethton, Sneedville and Mountain City.


Food items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to income-eligible households until all commodities are gone.


The program is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, and all recipients must be residents of Tennessee.


Commodity distributions will begin Wednesday at the following locations.


•In Kingsport, at the Civic Auditorium, 1550 Fort Henry Drive. Questions about this distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Kingsport Neighborhood Service Center at 247-5149 or at 301 Louis St.


•In Bristol, at the First Presbyterian Church, 701 Florida Ave. Questions about this distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Bristol Neighborhood Service Center at 968-3951 or at 713 Volunteer Parkway.


•In Rogersville, at the National Guard Armory, 208 Frontage Road. Questions about this distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Rogersville Neighborhood Service Center at 904 E. Main St. or at 272-2830.


•In Johnson City, at Keystone Recreation Center on Pardee Street. Questions about the distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Johnson City Neighborhood Service Center at 928-7327 or at 300 E. Main St., Suite 303.


•In Greeneville, at the East View Parks and Recreation Center, 456 E. Bernard Ave. Questions about the distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Greeneville Neighborhood Service Center, 424 E. Bernard Ave., or at 639-3681.


•In Elizabethton, at the National Guard Armory at Stoney Creek, Highway 91. Questions about the distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Elizabethton Neighborhood Service Center, 204 Rogosin Drive, or at 542-5121.


•In Mountain City, at the Johnson County Crewett, 203 Vandilla St. Questions about the distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Mountain City Neighborhood Service Center, 112 Pioneer Village Shopping Center, or at 727-6633.


•In Erwin, at the National Guard Armory, 615 S. Main St. Questions about this distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Erwin Neighborhood Service Center at 743-4103 or at 109 Gay St.


•In Sneedville, at the Hancock County Recreation Department (the old high school) on Harrison Street. Questions about this distribution should be directed to staff prior to that day at the Sneedville Neighborhood Service Center on Main Street or at 733-2522.


Anyone wishing to have another person pick up his or her commodities must get a permission slip to do so - prior to the distribution date - from the neighborhood service center listed for that distribution.


Eligibility is based on household income, which must be listed on the permission slip. Persons picking up for others may pick up for no more than five individuals, including themselves.


Each distribution will begin each day at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m., or earlier if foodstuffs are no longer available.


Recipients are asked to bring a paper bag or box to put their commodities in.
