CHURCH HILL - Church Hill police are looking for the person or persons responsible for a burglary Saturday morning at the Church Hill Drug Store on Main Boulevard. Police Chief Mark Johnson said that shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, the burglar or burglars made entry into the pharmacy through the roof but were scared off by to the audible alarm. They unsuccessfully attempted to break out of the store through the front door and eventually exited back out through the roof. No items were stolen. Johnson said the pharmacy had taken additional measures to protect all controlled substances. Three items were left at the crime scene - a small silver/gray dolly, a purple Outdoor Products brand duffel bag, and a black lug wrench. Johnson is asking anyone with information about who was involved in the burglary to call the Church Hill Police Department at 357-3487.

JOHNSON CITY - A Washington County Detention Center inmate failed to report back to jail Monday after a court-ordered work release, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said. Brian Jefferson Hulse, 27, of Telford, was released to work at Arby's in Jonesborough. But Hulse, who was serving an 11-year sentence for aggravated robbery and forgery, fled from the restaurant Monday in a relative's vehicle after taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, Graybeal said. Hulse now faces an additional charge of escape. "At this time there is nothing that indicates that Hulse would pose any immediate threat to the community," Graybeal said. "Usually when an individual is placed on court-ordered work release, the court does not deem that person a threat to society." The vehicle allegedly taken by Hulse is a 1992 Plymouth Voyager van, maroon in color, with Tennessee registration 970-NRW. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hulse is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 461-1414.
