Banks, city offices closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will result in the closing of most federal and state offices, as well as many area county and municipal offices.


The holiday will alter the schedule of some services provided by the city of Kingsport.


City Hall and most other city offices will be closed Monday and will reopen on a regular schedule Tuesday.


Garbage, yard waste and recycling collection services will be provided as scheduled on Monday. Citizens are asked to have everything to the curb by 7 a.m.


Kingsport's Demolition Landfill will be closed Monday but will resume normal operations Tuesday.


The Kingsport Public Library will be closed Monday, as will the Kingsport Senior Citizens Center.


Kingsport's Renaissance Center will also be closed Monday.


The Kingsport Area Transit System will not operate on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Normal operations will resume Tuesday.


Bays Mountain Park will be open on a regular schedule with public programs available.


In Hawkins County, the courthouse and most county offices will be closed for the holiday.


Rogersville City Hall will be closed Monday. Monday's garbage collection routes will be picked up Tuesday.


Surgoinsville City Hall, Mount Carmel Town Hall and Church Hill Town Hall will all remain open Monday on a regular schedule.


All offices at the Washington County Courthouse in Jonesborough and the Downtown Centre Courthouse in Johnson City will be closed. All Jonesborough Town Hall offices and all Johnson City City Hall offices will be closed.


The Washington County/Jonesborough Library will also be closed, as will the Johnson City Public Library.


In Southwest Virginia, the Scott County Courthouse and most county offices will be closed Monday.


Gate City Town Hall will be closed for the day. Garbage collection schedules should not be affected.


The Wise County Courthouse and most constitutional offices will also be closed Monday.


Big Stone Gap Town Hall will be closed for the holiday, but garbage collection schedules will not be changed.


Norton City Hall will be closed. Garbage routes scheduled for collection Monday will be picked up along with Tuesday's routes.


Coeburn Town Hall will be closed. Garbage routes will be on a regular schedule.


Wise Town Hall will be closed. Monday's garbage collection routes will be picked up along with Tuesday's routes.


Appalachia Town Hall will be closed. Garbage routes will be on a regular schedule.


The Lee County Courthouse and county offices will be closed.


Jonesville Town Hall and Pennington Gap Town Hall will both be closed, but garbage collection schedules in each town will not be affected.


Most banks surveyed plan to be closed for the holiday.
