KINGSPORT - Ron Prewitt has been named senior vice president of system operations and business development for Wellmont Health System.
Prewitt, who presently serves as president of the Administrative Services Division of Appalachian Oil Co., will assume his new responsibilities in February.
"Ron was chosen as part of a national search to fill this position," said Dr. Richard Salluzzo, Wellmont's president and chief executive officer. "Not only was he the most qualified candidate by a wide margin, but he also brings to the position a comprehensive knowledge of the area, tremendous business savvy and wonderful communication and leadership skills."
Prewitt is well-acquainted with the health system's operations. He has served as a volunteer member of the Wellmont board of directors since 1997 and, from July 2004 to June 2006, served as chairman of the board. He has also served as a volunteer member of the Lonesome Pine Hospital Board of Directors for more than two decades.
Upon assuming his new position, Prewitt will resign his seat on the Wellmont board.
In addition to his work at Appalachian Oil Co., Prewitt is vice president of Cummins Terminals Inc. He serves on the board of the Virginia Petroleum Convenience and Grocers Association. Prewitt and his wife, Dixie, have three children, Clay, Michael and Elizabeth.
KINGSPORT - Workspace Interiors has welcomed new employees to its staff.
Karen Tugwell has joined the company's sales and design team. A Tennessee native and graduate of the University of Tennessee, Tugwell comes to Workspace Interiors from HST Interior Elements in Nashville, where she specialized in national healthcare accounts. She is a registered interior designer in Tennessee and has more than 20 years of experience in furniture and design. Tugwell is married to Tug Tugwell and lives in Piney Flats.
Greg Kiser has joined WorkSpace Interiors' management team. He is a native of Southwest Virginia and a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology. Kiser has 25 years of construction experience. He is married to Tracey, lives in Kingsport, and is a member of Celebration Church.
KINGSPORT - Alice White, owner of Pinnacle Equity Management, has passed the qualifying exams to earn the Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist designation granted by the CMPS Institute, a training and certifying organization created to help mortgage professionals integrate financial planning concepts into the mortgage process. Less than 1 percent of mortgage originators nationwide have earned this designation.
White is the only certified mortgage planner in the state of Tennessee, according to a news release. The CMPS Institute is a joint effort by leaders in the mortgage and financial planning industries to raise professional standards among mortgage originators and integrate sound financial planning advice into the mortgage process. CMPS designees can offer clients strategies that encompass mortgages, debt management, home equity and real estate investment.
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Barton Hove, president of Bristol Regional Medical Center, has advanced to fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Fellow status is the highest level of professional achievement in ACHE, an international professional society representing nearly 30,000 healthcare executives. Fewer than 3,300 U.S. healthcare executives have achieved fellow status.
Hove was named an ACHE fellow after demonstrating education, experience and leadership in the healthcare field over a period of several years. He is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he received a master's degree in hospital administration.
Hove has served as president of Bristol Regional since 2000.
KINGSPORT - The senior chaplain at Indian Path Medical Center has completed requirements for certification as a board-certified chaplain.
The Rev. Ron Owens, who has served as a full-time senior chaplain at IPMC for two and a half years, took four units - of 400 hours each - of clinical care and group pastoral education through the Association of Professional Chaplains to complete the certification. His board certification will be awarded in May at the APC Annual Conference in San Francisco.
As hospital chaplain, Owens serves the facility on a "healing team," which also brings spiritual counsel and a component to Indian Path Pavilion and the team at Kingsport Day Surgery.
"The pastoral ministry brings a great satisfaction to me," Owens said. "It is a fulfillment of the calling to provide spiritual care to persons in the clinical setting. The spiritual dimension and the clinical component of care come together and better enable the provision of holistic care. My ministry touches patients, their families and hospital team members."
The APC is a professional membership organization that certifies chaplains based on objective standards of professional education and competence.
