GATE CITY — The 1032nd Transportation Unit of the Virginia National Guard is no longer scheduled for its mission to Afghanistan.

Maj. Cotton Puryear confirms the Department of Defense has canceled the Gate City-based unit’s deployment, which was scheduled for March.

The unit remains on an alert status and could get new orders at any time. It recently completed a three-week pre-mobilization training at Fort Pickett.
