A Norton, Va., man arrested for his 3rd DUI Wednesday morning had pulled off the road in Blountville to text his girlfriend.
According to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office report, police were called to 300 Green Drive about 4:59 a.m. to investigate a suspicious vehicle stopped in the parking lot of the apartments.
Upon arrival, the officer saw a white Dodge Stratus sitting in the parking lot with its engine running, lights on and the brakes pressed. The driver was identified as Brett Allen Boatright, 29, 6221 Josephine Road.
Boatright told the officer he was texting his girlfriend. He said he'd stopped there because she lived two houses up and her husband was home so he couldn't go there.
The officer said Boatright had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, and he admitted to drinking eight beers. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused to sign an implied consent form.
Boatright could not produce a valid driver license or any proof of insurance or registration and the tag on his vehicle, described as "CLOUD 09" came back not on file.
He showed the officer his Virginia identification card, which he had because his driver license had been revoked for a prior DUI.
In addition to his third DUI, Boatright was charged with a fifth offense of driving on a revoked license, along with driving an unregistered vehicle, no proof of insurance, and simple possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Hopefully the "registered owner" of Cloud 09 isn't the "violators" wife...tee hee...can't believe she actually came online and commented about her car. LOL... Bob Dennett, can we add Southwest Virginia to the scoreboard?
As the "registered" owner of the Dodge Stratus in the state of VA I feel the officer"s" did charge the driver inappropriately as the vehicle registration was in the glove box as well as the insurance information. As far as the other charges, I have not spoken with the driver so I can't comment. By the way, the CLOUD 09 tag implies that a white stratus, the color and model of the car, is a type of cloud and the # 9 went with it as a joke.
Did ya'll notice the heading;Norton,Va man pulls off road to text girlfriend in Blountville. Then, man pulls off road in Blountville,to text girlfriend. Then, didn't say what city, state the man's address;6221 Josephine Rd,was in.Nah,I ain't no Perry Mason, but,I believe the writer may have been a staff writer.
I truly hope no one is harmed by the guy's accusations. Seriously, if you are suspicious, just Google Earth the address. You and your wife will likely have a good laugh..
Sounds like the guy was drunk and just made up a story.
Kingsport Resident, I understand what you are trying to say. Since you have worked with domestic violence victims then you know that if a woman is living with a violent and jealous man, then the mere fact an unknown man was sitting within the vicinity is more than enough "reason" for him to accuse her. It wouldn't matter if he claimed he was looking for his lost dog. Abusers will create reason from nothing.
The rest of the story, Only in Tennessee: are the hours I spent working week-ends at the domestic violence shelter in Scott County.
We each have issues that we feel strongly about, and I've never been inclined to post until I saw the potential harm in these inflammatory comments. I suspect that my post will be ignored, as a paper that represents solely fact outside of the editorial page: will not sell as many copies. The reason that tabloid reporting exists is that so many people take pleasure in the misfortunes of others.
He was probably on the wrong street anyway, but, wow, seems like this story hit home with someone for them to be so upset that the KTN reported something that was obviously in a police report...worried, eh?? Didn't see Kingsport resident objecting to all the other obviously tabloid fodder in KTN's previous stories!! What's the "rest of the story"?
"He said he'd stopped there because she lived two houses up and her husband was home so he couldn't go there."
Are you sure you want to be guilty of this level of paternalism, Times News? Every woman living on this street is now subject to scrutiny, and any of these woman married to a jealous spouse is at risk of domestic violence.
The Times News previously owned the distinction of the regional publication most notorious for reporting hearsay. But this is beyond gossip and innuendo; this stunt is tabloid fodder.
The best possible outcome from this article is the ruined marriage and reputation of the unnamed woman; the worst possible outcome could lead to a follow-up report of domestic violence.
Please reconsider ascribing moral judgment in future articles and allow facts to speak for themselves.
Shame they didn't give the girlfriend's name too!
He probably does now since they live two houses up from the address given in the story. LOL.
Couldn't go see his girlfriend because her husband was home...Wow...wonder if he knows she has a boyfriend?
