Machete bandit robs same Kingsport Sunoco station for second time

Published November 20th, 2009 | 5 Comments

For the second time in ten days, the same Kingsport gas station has been robbed by a man armed with a machete.

The most recent robbery occurred Thursday morning, at about 4 a.m. A man entered the Sunoco, 4001 Memorial Boulevard, dressed in all black. A black hoodie covered all but his eyes.

According to Kingsport Police Department Det. Frank Light, the suspect demanded money from the register and the clerk complied. He then demanded the clerk's wallet, which was also handed over.

The man also stole several six packs of beer, which he toted away in a bag he brought into the store.

Det. Light said a K-9 unit was called to the scene, and followed a trail for a short distance. However, it went dead at a nearby roadway, and police believe he left the scene in a car.

The store was robbed in almost identical fashion on Nov. 9, by what police suspect is the same man.

In that incident he entered at about 1:30 a.m. holding a machete, and fled with money and cigarettes.

Police are asking anyone with any information about the crime to contact the Kingsport Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 229-9429.

Hopefully the next headline will be:

"Gas Station Attendant Shoots And Kills Armed Criminal During Attempted Robbery."

A hostile individual within 7 yards with a machete becomes a target.

For the same perpetrator to rob the same place twice, using the same deadly weapon (a machete no less), what we have here people is someone who is saying "In your face fools".

This is taunting behavior and is mocking the law enforcement personnel, as if to say "You can't catch me, you can't catch me".

Congrats to the KPD on another job well done. You can get your sons acquitted from DUI's, but you can't find a man walking around with a machete. Glad to know Kingsport's Finest (HA) continue to do a job we can all be proud of.

Was the same person working the night shift that was robbed before? Maybe someone should check with the store clerk --they may know more than you think -- if you know what I mean......

shows you how this guy got in such a sorry position to have to rob. can take anything in the store foodwise, he chooses beer and cigarettes. After all that he'll still be hungry tomorrow morning.
