The GOP's women problem

Published November 10th, 2009 | 8 Comments

According to the Politico, conservatives say they pushed Dede Scozzafava out of New York’s 23rd District House race because of her left-of-Republican social views — and not because she is a woman.

But the growing schism between the Republican Party’s ascendant right wing and its shrinking moderate core has clear gender undertones — and Scozzafava’s departure raises fresh questions about the GOP’s ability to recruit, elect and even tolerate the sort of moderate women who used to be part of its ruling mainstream.

While Republicans scored a pair of impressive electoral victories in New Jersey and Virginia with solid support among female voters, the events of the last week offer harbingers of serious trouble ahead with the largest swing voter bloc in the country — women.

“Women tend to have a more practical, less ideological way of approaching life and, therefore, approaching politics, and our party doesn’t always take kindly to that,” said former Ohio Rep. Deborah Pryce, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference from 2003 to 2007.

I'm sure that Barry Goldwater and Robert Taft would be considered RINO's by today's mouthy republican operatives.

The Republican party of the 1960s is dead. The Republican party of the 1960s would have stood up for gay marriage on a personal liberty principle.

Today's Republican party is all about pushing someone's Godly or elderly morals onto others. Really attractive thing you got there.

Lets face it. The one's complaining about the RINOs are the Hijackers.

since men still get paid more in the year 2009...they should just get their husbands to run, anyway.

that way they can be the ones really running the show behind the scenes...telling him what to do, and get more income in the household since having a penis pays more.

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it untrue, er, I'm sorry, "lying, hypocritical, PC BS".

This article is ridiculous and obviously written by a lib. There are many powerful women in the Republican Party. Conservatives eschewed Scozzafava because she was a liberal in Republican clothing.

I grow so tired of the lying, hypocritical, PC BS bandied about to hurt the other party. Do they believe that we're that stupid that we can't see through it?

I'm having a hard time understanding the Republican strategy here. They pushed their own candidate out because she didn't always agree with them, thus paving the way for a Democrat who NEVER agrees with them to win the election. Does that sound logical to anyone?

The problem with Scozzafava is that she is not a Conservative, nor is she a Moderate, she is a Liberal in Republican clothing. If she wants to run on a liberal platform then she needs to switch to the Democratic Party. The Republican base doesn't have an issue with women, we have an issue with RINO's (Republican In Name Only).
