BLOUNTVILLE — A Bristol woman accused of running a meth lab in her home has been arraigned on several drug charges.
She was arrested after police raided an alleged meth lab in a Sullivan County mobile home park Thursday where neighbors said they sometimes wouldn’t let their children outside due to an overwhelming scent of chemicals in the air.
Cynthia Baumgardner, 44, 327 Deck Valley Road, Lot B-13, was arraigned Friday morning on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule III narcotics, possession of Schedule VI drugs, and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are used, stored or sold.
The charges stem from officers’ discovery of suspected meth lab components while at her residence to serve a warrant for failure to appear in court on charges of speeding and driving on a suspended license.
Sullivan County deputies descended on Baumgardner’s home in Roller Hill Park about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
In the kitchen, one of the officers saw new and used coffee filters, Coleman fuel canisters and a glass jar of clear liquid with white powder in the bottom. The collection of items caused the officers to suspect Baumgardner had been making meth.
The officers obtained consent to search the residence, and additional personnel responded to conduct the search clothed in protective gear.
They located additional items allegedly used to make and ingest meth.
Jars of liquid and powder were sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for identification.
The remaining items officers collected were taken by Eagle Environmental Co. to be destroyed.
Baumgardner was arrested and taken to jail on the outstanding warrant. At the jail, she said she wanted a lawyer and declined to give a statement about the alleged meth lab.
Baumgardner was then charged with the additional drug counts and arraigned at the jail Friday morning. She will make her first appearance in court on the new charges on Monday.
She was jailed in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
