Government can't keep playing Santa

Published November 5th, 2009 | 5 Comments

Our government is not Santa Claus with a big bag of health care goodies. There is no free ride. Our nation is broke, there is no money to pay for health care. We need to cut up big government’s credit cards.

Financial advisers continually tell over-extended individuals to stop using credit, pay cash, buy only essentials, work hard and sacrifice to pay off debt. First rule: make no more debt. We must expect the same from government.

Current government programs should be overhauled to eliminate mismanagement, waste, fraud, greed, corruption. We need to demand the same for corporate business in the health care and pharmaceutical sectors. A manufacturer does not need to mark up a pill 3,000 percent as some do. Many of the tests ordered by doctors are unnecessary and raise costs. We should take charge of our health and look at all the options available.

Some watchdogs explain current health reform bills require a national card for citizens and allow government access to our individual finances. However, immigrants would have no ID or payment required. We must say no to government’s greedy hands. The rush to pass health care reform appears to be a grab for control over our lives and our money.

This is serious business. Our government cannot pay for more health care. Many Americans are struggling to pay for their own health care; they cannot pay more.

Thirty years ago, obtaining medical care was much easier and affordable. It was only after medicine became big business with a growing number of large corporations controlling everything from doctors, hospitals, medical equipment, medications, to insurance. It is all about greed. We need good jobs with benefits, less corporate medicine and a frugal government. No more credit.
