Why must we accept what's wrong?

Published November 4th, 2009 | 10 Comments

As an adult and now a Christian, I have been told that I must accept the fact that some of my tax dollars go to the National Endowment for the Arts to fund such things as a crucifix submerged in a bottle of urine and a portrait of the Madonna made from elephant dung. I have also been told that I must accept the rewriting of our country’s history in our children’s schoolbooks that omits the Christianity on which our country was founded. I have been told to keep silent when our Congress and Supreme Court justices have different interpretations of “the separation of church and state” than that for which it was originally intended.

I am bombarded with foul language and the use of my Lord’s name as profanity daily, both on the street and on TV. I see more compassion for an animal than a human baby, especially the unborn, and I wonder why I am forced to accept things politically correct that are so biblically wrong, and why what is evil is now considered good, while good is considered evil.

I hear of children killing other children, and the media says they don’t understand why. It couldn’t possibly be the progression of violence our children are exposed to from movies, TV, and some video games without anything in their lives for balance that helps them tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

The Ten Commandments displayed in public places might just help them see that lying or stealing or taking a life is wrong, but we are told we must accept that they have to be removed from these places because someone might actually read them and change. Am I alone in thinking that wouldn’t be a bad idea, or is that kind of thinking also politically incorrect?

"...preoccupied with their fake outrage." Nail on the head, Mr. D.W.

"Piss Christ" is actually a beautiful piece of art and those who condemn it would actually agree with it's meaning if they weren't so preoccupied with their fake outrage.

It certainly can be when you consider some of the parents!!

Well stated, Mr. Wright.

Lana: are you advocating that parents be more responsible for teaching their own children? Scary concept, there.

In my opinion, this type of mentality is exactly why children are killing children. Parents no longer want the responsibility of teacher their children right from wrong, monitoring what they watch on TV or the games they play, etc. They want the rest of the world to do it for them.

Judy, here's a news flash for you. You live in the United States of America. Under the religiously neutral principles upon which this country was founded you have the right to embrace (or not) a religious belief system, to preach it to anyone who will listen to you and to write letters to the newspapers. But this means that everyone else has the same rights, even those people who believe that your beliefs are nothing more than ignorant superstitious swill. You're just going to have to deal with it, sweetheart. You enjoy all the blessings of freedom in this great free-wheeling society of ours. Grow a thick skin and enjoy the ride.

Trust me, having a plaque on a wall with the 10 commandments on it is not going to make someone suddenly realize their sin and make a change. Even if it were allowed I would love to see actually how many people even bother to read it in the first place.

If you think about it, the reason you are sooooo oppressed by the 'sin' around you is because you most likely think you are better and holier than anyone else that chooses to live differently than you. And, quite possibly, your version of what is sinful isn't even written in that precious black book in the first place.

So YOUR interpretation of the constitution is "how it was originally intended". The Justices of the Supreme Court with all of their education, experience, and wisdom are completely wrong. You are bombarded with foul language and violent images on a daily basis? I am bombarded with religious fanatics and propaganda on a daily basis. My patience has expired for you people who are constantly cramming religion down everyone's throat.

"The Ten Commandments displayed in public places might just help them see that lying or stealing or taking a life is wrong, but we are told we must accept that they have to be removed from these places because someone might actually read them and change."

I am sure that our lawmakers and judicial officials had the plaques removed because they were afraid of positive changes that could result from their presence. More likely in fact, is that they were removed because not everyone in this country is a christian. The non-christians have the right not to have christianity forced on them as much as a christian has the right not to have a Muslim force him/her to listen to an Islamic sermon. A Buddhist or Agnostic might not want to have the christian 10 commandments slapping them in the face every time they go to renew their tags or pay their taxes.

I guess I should ask you Judy Gilliam, why must we accept what's wrong? Why must I accept the fact that morons who follow an all knowing and all seeing, magical man in the sky are allowed to reproduce? Why must I accept that? This is America, where all Americans are entitled to be as stupid as they wish....That's why.
