Re. “Kingsport to Study Wadlow Gap-U.S. 23 Corridor,” John Campbell is quoted: “We see it as an opportunity to improve access into Southwest Virginia for residential and economic growth.”
I truly support growth in Southwest Virginia, but what about the residential and economic growth of Lynn Garden? Lynn Garden was bypassed when John B. Dennis Highway was initially constructed to join with Wadlow Gap Road and again when Interstate 26 was completed. It has almost been bypassed off the map. When was a corridor study done on Lynn Garden Drive that shows there is a need to “avoid the congestion?” Many businesses closed after the previous bypass routes were completed, and now Kingsport must want to make sure the remainder close as well. Lynn Garden and many other areas need the attention of Kingsport’s government before time and money are spent on projects that are in another state, no less.
And why will access into the facilities on U.S. 23 (assuming this is the Weber City-state line area) need to be improved when the main traffic flow will be diverted away from them onto Wadlow Gap Road?
Have you traveled East Sullivan Street from 3-6 p.m. lately? Now that’s congestion. Have you driven the ramps at Lynn Garden Drive and Stone Drive? They and many other streets could use repairs. Any use of Tennessee and Kingsport taxpayers’ money should begin at home.

I have brought up the disrepair in Lynn Garden many times and the total ignoring of Lynn Garden by the city. Tracing it back Lynn Garden being the only smart community to have more no votes for Meadowview, the city seems to think of us as the unwanted step child. Roads are bad, sidewalks are not clear, and crime is going up. The community where TimesNews resides in, you think we would have at least a look as to why business move out or shutdown and why they do not move into the area.
You're definetely onto something here N.F.,but,my own opinion & comments are so numerious that I don't care to take the time to write a book here. The voters voices are silent as Kpt gov pursues it's interests. There are weeds.near jungle along Memorial Blvd,at places, there are residential & businesses,BUT,NO sidewalks, barely, any shoulder for walkers,in spite of the fact that a traffic/needs study, originally, was done a dozen years or more ago,& the city is still waiting for the state to take care of these & other needs, while it (the city)uses it's funds/energies to annex more of Sullivan County.Enough said.
