Islamic aggression never ends

Published October 31st, 2009 | 5 Comments

The op-ed piece from the Jerusalem Post Oct. 30 misses a very salient point: Islam has been at war with the rest of the world almost since its inception. Its founder, Muhammad, died in 632 A.D., and Islamic armies from East Africa invaded the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) in 711 A.D., more than three centuries before the first Crusaders set foot in the Holy Land. Islamic armies invaded France and Germany as well. Constantinople, now Istanbul, fell to Muslims in 1453, and Vienna, Austria, was under siege as late as 1683. As for Israel, it was restored to nationhood in 1948 and has been under siege by its Muslim neighbors since. Iran’s president repeatedly calls for its destruction and calls the Holocaust a myth.

Modern events show that Islamic aggression has never let up, with nation after nation falling under attack: Israel and the U.S. of course, but also China, Spain, Britain, Russia, the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, Italy, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia. Muslims even make war on other Muslims simply because they differ fundamentally over who should have succeeded Muhammad. The Jerusalem Post piece worries that Jews who wish to assert their historical rights to the Temple Mount risk inflaming 1.56 billion Muslims.

The world’s population is approximately 6.5 billion, yet everyone cowers and quakes at the thought that Muslims might get upset and attack them. Europe and now the media in the U.S. are afraid to publish cartoons because they offend Muslims. Muslims rioted in France, so there is reason for such fear. What is ultimately at stake, though, are the four freedoms FDR invited Norman Rockwell to depict: freedom from fear and want, and freedom of religion and speech.

Peter, you might be on to something, here.

Onward secular soldiers
Marching toward the truth,
With the lamp of reason
To guide us on our way.

Ooh-rah!

The Religion of Peace, doncha know?

Yes, I do agree they are aggressive, and this is one area where liberals are wrong when they claim Islam is all about peace.

Of course, Christianity trying to take over the world with bibles is just about as bad as Muslims taking over the world with bomb belts.

Militant Muslims and militant Christians both need to be tamed by secular armies.

I don't think we (Christians) should be throwing any stones at Islam or any other religion.
Religion has always been used to control populations and or to legitimize ruling over a population.
By the way, Iberia was conquered by the Visigoths and the population forced to accept the Catholic religion. In order to resist the Visigoths, the people invited the Moors (from North Africa) - mostly Berbers with a Arab (Islamic) leadership - into Iberia. With the help of the locals an army of barely 40,000 managed to invade most of the peninsula. The Moors were much more liberal than the Visigoths, did not insist in converting everyone to Islam and managed to co-exist with Catholics and the Jews in the area.
There are always two sides to every story and or war and we should never use religion to advocate hate or justify killing each other.
