The original Times-News story on the thefts from the Sullivan school warehouse stated, “About 200 brand-new Dell laptops went untouched.” Since then we’ve read nothing about those laptops and why they are in a warehouse and not in front of students.
Give each laptop a conservative value of $500 each, and we’re talking about $100,000 of laptops gathering dust in a warehouse instead of being used as learning tools in front of students. As a taxpayer, I’d like to see this investigated and explained.
The SCSO investigator said the perpetrator was seen on video leaving with the items (that were retrieved), and I believe the deputy and the thief that confessed. Simply sounds like a party warehouse and none of us taxpayers were invited in the past. Why are 200 laptops sitting in a warehouse? We’re going to be given what I hope will at least be a plausible explanation on the rest of this, but $100,000 worth of laptops concerns me a lot more.
