ESPN college football analyst and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Griese issued an apology during the closing moments of the game he was broadcasting Saturday due to an off-color comment made about Sprint Cup driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

According to Charlotte Observer writer Jim Utter, the possible racial slur came during a promo at the beginning of the second-quarter coverage of the Ohio State-Minnesota NCAA football game where ESPN was touting their coverage of the Sprint Cup TUMS Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville.

"Where's Juan Pablo Montoya?" fellow color commentator Chris Spielman asked of the Colombian-born driver who fell out of the top-five in Sprint Cup points last weekend.

"He's out having a taco," Griese replied.

NASCAR officials declined to comment to the Observer and referred all inquiries to ESPN.

There was no immediate response from ESPN regarding the incident.

"Juan Pablo Montoya, he's one of the best drivers in NASCAR. Just want to apologize for the comment I made earlier in the ball game," Griese said nearly two hours after his initial comment.

The funny thing is that he is Colombian-born which means the comment should have been "he's out getting a cup of coffee."

That was silly to have to apologize for that. If he had been talking about a 300 lb. white football player and said he was out having a cheeseburger, no one would have thought anything about it. The PC police is second cousin to the old KGB in Russia. How ridiculous.
