According to a report by USA Today, P.M . Forni thought it was great when South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson interrupted President Obama's address to Congress by shouting "You lie!" He thought it was great because, "now the notion of civility may be back on the national agenda."
Then things got better for Forni, who heads The Civility Initiative at Johns Hopkins University.
Tennis star Serena Williams lost her U.S. Open semifinal after a blistering salvo at a line judge.
On Sunday rapper Kanye West, bum-rushed the Radio City Music Hall stage during the MTV Video Music Awards to interrupt Taylor Swift as she accepted the statuette for best female video. West snatched her microphone and ranted that Beyoncé should have won.
Forni, author of 'The Civility Solution: What to Do When People Are Rude' told USA Today, "American society is among the most informal in the world, and often that informality crosses over into incivility," he says. "Now, you add the informality of the Internet to this culture, and all bets are off. It's an age of total disclosure and total expression, with very little concern for the feelings of others."

Yep. You're one big johnson, all right!
Here is a section of Bush's address.

Dozens if not hundreds of Democrat congressmen were shouting derisive remarks at him.
This is not a new phenomenon, it has been going on since the first Congress was convened. In the old days that you say were more civilized, gentlemen would get into fist fights, and some would have pistol duels to the death afterwards.
"There is a big difference between booing and calling someone a name."
Oh give me a break, you don't believe that. You just make up arbitrary distinctions after the fact to support your radicalized position.
There is a big difference between booing and calling someone a name. I personally don't think any of it should be allowed, and have criticized both parties for what I consider bad behavior.
Democrats booed and catcalled Bush during his state of the union address in 2005. Booing and catcalling has been part of Congress for more than two centuries now, it's hypocritical and foolish to be against it now. Where was the criticism in 2005?
Well said Nunya Bidness!!!
Yeah, yeah you can compare what Joe Wilson did to what the athletes are doing.
Bad manners & disrespect are pretty obvious are the same no matter where a person is.
The thing about Joe Wilson is that he is an elected official. He should know better than athletes & celebrities. He has heard of decorum - especially in Chambers.
Call me cynical but I have no doubt his "uncontrollable outburst" is a direct result of an upcoming election.
The point of the article (which really isn't news-worthy to begin with) is that our society's informality is leading us to believe that we are "being real" or speaking up for what we believe in, but it's just an excuse for being rude and thoughtless.
There is no comparison to what Joe Wilson did and to bad manners of athletes and singers. Obama is setting the United States up to go bankrupt. And I feel as many others he knows this.(I deal every day with the public on my job)When you are about to lose the nation and liberties that so many have died for, it is not a time to be civil. Most of all not with a man like Obama. I have talked to missionaries from over seas socialism does not work but that is what this man wants here.
Some idiot on a stage is not representative of humanity as a whole. The notion that he is or that people feel bad about it is what is really troubling. The real problem here is that his manager didn't have a tight enough leash on him. Much commercialized music is fake including the personas they proeject, and this is just an example where you get to see a bit of one fake dude's true colors. Who cares. He's an idiot as clearly seen by all of america.
yes, this is sadly so true. but don't lose faith in people totally. there are still those with morals, manners and respect. i try to enforce that with my teens. i try to enforce it with myself, though sometimes it is difficult.... we just have to suck it up and do what is right.
