ROGERSVILLE — A Church Hill man accused of stabbing his brother three times in a Hawkins County cemetery in May was indicted Monday on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Robert James Horton, 25, 255 Dotson Lane, Church Hill, initially became a suspect in the May 3 stabbing of his brother, David Wayne Horton, 19, thanks to an anonymous tip to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office.

David Horton initially stated he didn’t know who stabbed him.

After investigators began asking questions, however, Robert Horton made several calls to the HCSO asking if he was wanted. That raised enough suspicion for HCSO investigators to invite Robert Horton in for an interview.

During that interview, Robert Horton allegedly admitted to stabbing his brother at the Webster Cemetery off of Caney Valley Road in the rural northern edge of Hawkins County.

Robert Horton also allegedly shed some light on the motive.

“They’ve got some kin buried there, and they went up there to hash out some family problems,” HCSO Lt. Detective Randy Collier told the Times-News at the time of the arrest. “It was a family disagreement over something that the suspect (Robert Horton) had allegedly done to another family member. The victim confronted him about it, and during that discussion the victim was stabbed.”

According to the arrest warrant, David Horton suffered three stab wounds including to the chest and lower back. He sustained a collapsed lung and suffered from blood and air in the chest cavity.

Robert Horton will be arraigned in circuit court Monday. Attempted second-degree murder is a Class B felony punishable by up to 12 years in prison.

• Dustin Tyler Wade, 22, 170 Woodlawn St., Apt. H, Rogersville, statutory rape.
