ELIZABETHTON — A health care worker was arrested last week by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation following her indictment by a Carter County grand jury on allegations she neglected a dependent adult in her car and fraudulently obtained drugs.
Rebecca A. Garland, 45, 407 1/2 Holston Ave., was charged with one count of willful abuse, neglect or exploitation of a dependent adult and two counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud, deceit or theft.
The TBI said Garland withheld a patient’s medication on at least two occasions. The case was investigated by the TBI’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Garland was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Hermitage Health Care Center of Elizabethton.
Garland is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Sept. 11.
