No fight left in Virginia's Fightin' Ninth

Published July 7th, 2009 | 8 Comments

Virginia’s Ninth District for many years was known as the “Fightin’ Ninth.” We are no more. With the election of Obama and his loyal-to-the-end sidekick Rick Boucher, the Ninth has gone down without a fight.

Boucher has pledged wholehearted support for the most liberal White House agenda in many years. Just last month, he voted in support of a despicable hate crimes bill that the overwhelming majority of Virginians were opposed to.

The bill will eventually lead to the erosion of free speech rights and open the door to prosecution for clergy or anyone else speaking out against homosexuality or abortion. It also grants special protection for pedophiles, rapists, and child molesters.

If that wasn’t enough, Boucher just this week is supporting carbon cap and trade legislation that if passed would send electric bills through the roof, raise taxes and send a message to his buddy Obama that he can count on him to help drive a nail in the coffin of the coal industry. The one thing I can say about you, Rick, is that you almost never miss a vote. I just wish you had missed these two.

Apparently not, Lana. They let Fox News and Rush and Hannity and O'Reilly do it all for them.

Here's language from the bill, for those who insist that they'll be jailed for speaking out against homosexuals:

"Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by, the Constitution."

Sometimes people do not even have a clue what they are talking about.

Closeminded people.....sheesh

Did you use Virginia GOP and good in the same sentence ?

I wander how many people have actually read the hate crimes bill in it's entirety.

I hope the Virginia GOP has a good candidate lined up for this seat in 2010.

"The bill will eventually lead to the erosion of free speech rights and open the door to prosecution for clergy or anyone else speaking out against homosexuality or abortion. "

The inability to yell 'fire' in a crowded theater hasn't eroded our free speech rights, nor will this. Besides, people like the late Jerry Falwell needed to be arrested a long time ago for their constant yelling of the word 'fire'.

I guess that if you're a preacher with harsh views on gays and abortion, you have something to worry about now, and overall, thats good.

How Boucher keeps getting re-elected is beyond me. I guess he thinks people in SW Va just are a little too stupid to know what he is doing in Washington. Judging by how many consecutive terms he has been in office, he may be correct...

Just read the article on how he is defending his position on the "Cap and Trade" bill. It is ludicrous. I urge everyone that disagrees with his vote to let him know about it via letter or phone call; and then show up next time he is up for re-election and really let him know about it.

I agree with you, totally. But read the article in today's paper. It's spin at it's best. We will see prices rise and at a big percentage. We're not the only ones upset with Boucher's support of these bills. I sent an email to Boucher's office along with the Senators of VA. I have yet to get a reply from Boucher. I've supported him the last 3 elections but as I told him in the emai, his support of the stimulus and Cap and Trade has lost my vote forever. I will never vote for him again. God help our nation because or freedom's are disappearing...and it scares me at how quickly it's happening and many refuse to see it out of sake of party. I don't give a rat's rear end what party you are in...if you don't vote the best interest of this country I don't vote for you!
