One youth in fight staged for YouTube ends up at hospital; both Kingsport teens headed for Juvenile Court

Published April 23rd, 2009 | 0 Comments

KINGSPORT — One juvenile who participated in what the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is calling a fight staged for YouTube ended up going to the hospital. Both will end up in court.

According to the sheriff’s office, the fight took place last Friday at 6 p.m. at Warriors Path State Park.

Law enforcement officials learned about the fight when they were called to the Indian Path Medical Center Emergency Room and talked with one of the juveniles and his parents.

The extent of the boy’s injuries was not available, as the officer who responded to the incident was off Thursday, said SCSO Capt. Keith Elton.

The department’s brief report on the incident states: “The juvenile males, who are friends, had planned for about a week to fight at Warriors Path State Park. When one of the juveniles was picked up at the park there were 30 to 40 other kids present, and most had their cell phones and cameras with them.”

According to the release, the story that the fight would end up on YouTube was spread by the juveniles who staged it.

One of the juvenile males is 16, and the other is 15. Both are from Kingsport, Elton said.

Juvenile petitions were filed Wednesday charging both with disorderly conduct.

The report does not say who “picked up” one of the youths at the park or why one individual was taken to the emergency room.
