TOKYO (AP) _ Across the globe, people in city squares and living rooms, ballrooms and villages cheered the election of Barack Obama as U.S. president, raising hopes that America's first black commander in chief would herald a less confrontational America.
People crowded before TVs or listened to blaring radios for the latest updates. In Sydney, Australians filled a hotel ballroom. In Rio, Brazilians partied on the beach. In the town of Obama, in Japan, dancers cheered in delight when their namesake's victory was declared.
Many who live in countries where the idea of a minority being elected leader is unthinkable expressed amazement and satisfaction that the United States could overcome centuries of racial strife and elect an African-American — and one with Hussein as a middle name — as president.
"What an inspiration. He is the first truly global U.S. president the world has ever had," said Pracha Kanjananont, a 29-year-old Thai sitting at a Starbuck's in Bangkok. "He had an Asian childhood, African parentage and has a Middle Eastern name. He is a truly global president."
In an interconnected world where people in its farthest reaches could monitor the presidential race blow-by-blow, many observers echoed Obama's own campaign mantra as they struggled to put into words their sense that his election marked an important turning point.
"I really think this is going to change the world," gushed Akihiko Mukohama, 34, the lead singer of a band that traveled to Obama, Japan, to perform at a promotional event for the president-elect. He wore an "I Love Obama" T-shirt.
The magnitude and emotion of the world reaction illustrated the international character of the U.S. presidency. Many look to Washington as the place where the global issues of war and peace, prosperity or crisis, are decided.
"This is an enormous outcome for all of us," said John Wood, the former New Zealand ambassador to the U.S. "We have to hope and pray that President Obama can move forward in ways which are constructive and beneficial to all of us."
Hopes were also high among those critical of President Bush's policies that an Obama victory would bring in a more inclusive, internationally cooperative U.S. approach. Many cited the Iraq war as the type of blunder Obama was unlikely to repeat.
At a party in Rio de Janeiro where Brazilians and Americans watched results come in, 33-year-old music producer Zanna said an Obama win would show that "Americans have learned something from the bad experiences of the Bush administration and that they choose well — that they choose Obama."
Indeed, even as they raised expectations, many U.S.-watchers were quick to point out that Obama would have to confront enormous problems once in office: wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, tenacious difficulties in the Middle East and North Korea, a world economy in turmoil.
Europe, where Obama is overwhelmingly popular, is one region that looked eagerly to an Obama administration for a revival in warm relations after the Bush government's chilly rift with the continent over the Iraq war.
"At a time when we have to confront immense challenges together, your election raises great hopes in France, in Europe and in the rest of the world," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a congratulations letter to Obama.
Some South Koreans said they hoped Obama — who has said he favors direct engagement with North Korea — would press North Korean leader Kim Jong Il on human rights issues and the alleged kidnappings of hundreds of South Koreans.
Skepticism, however, was high in the Muslim world. The Bush administration alienated those in the Middle East by mistreating prisoners at its detention center for terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and inmates at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison — human rights violations also condemned worldwide.
Some Iraqis, who have suffered through five years of a war ignited by the United States and its allies, said they would believe positive change when they saw it.
"Obama's victory will do nothing for the Iraqi issue nor for the Palestinian issue," said Muneer Jamal, a Baghdad resident. "I think all the promises Obama made during the campaign will remain mere promises."
In Pakistan, a country vital to the U.S.-led war on the al-Qaida terrorist network and neighbor to Afghanistan, many hoped Obama would bring some respite from rising militant violence that many blame on Bush.
Still, Mohammed Arshad, a 28-year-old schoolteacher in the capital, Islamabad, doubted Obama's ability to change U.S. foreign policy dramatically.
"It is true that Bush gave America a very bad name. He has become a symbol of hate. But I don't think the change of face will suddenly make any big difference," he said.
Meanwhile, Obama also faced skepticism on the other side of the Mideast divide, in Israel.
Shoshana Bair, 27, an Orthodox Jewish woman who runs a medical not-for-profit group in Jerusalem, expressed the fear that Obama's allegiance would lie with the Palestinians.
"There's no doubt great apprehension. On the face of things it's frightening," said Bair, who defined Obama as a Muslim, but when corrected, said, "but his name is Hussein."
Her main fears, she said, were that Israel would be pushed into "land concessions without receiving anything in return, and the division of Jerusalem," the holy city that both Jews and Palestinains claim as their capital.
Many expressed hopes that Obama would restore the American economic leadership they said was needed for the world to reverse a punishing financial meltdown. Some in Asia, a region heavily dependent on exports to the U.S. market, worried the Democrat would try to protect American producers at their expense.
"The one thing that I don't approve of Obama is that he is an economic protectionist. He's in favor of protected economies, instead of free markets," said university student Yu Fangjing, 20, in Hong Kong. "It's not good for the world."
Still, many around the world found Obama's international roots — his father was Kenyan, and he lived four years in Indonesia as a child — compelling and attractive.
Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki declared a public holiday on Thursday in honor of Obama's election victory, and people across Africa stayed up all night or woke before dawn Wednesday to watch the U.S. election results roll in.
"He's in!" said Rachel Ndimu, 23, a business student who joined hundreds of others at the residence of the U.S. ambassador in Nairobi. "I think this is awesome, and the whole world is backing him."
In Jakarta, hundreds of students at his former elementary school gathered around a television set to watch as results came in, erupting in cheers when he was declared winner and then pouring into the courtyard where they hugged each other and danced in the rain.
"We're so proud!" Alsya Nadin, a spunky 10-year-old in pink-framed glasses, said as her classmates chanted "Obama! Obama!"

I'm not exactly sure how you figure that Clinton created the mess we are currently in. As far as I know Clinton did NOT start a pointless war. The economy and the national debt was in great shape when Clinton was in office. And the Hurricane Katrina debacle happened during Bush's second term.
I bring this story back from the dead today to once again congratulate President Obama after officially being inaugurated today. It's nice to have promise in this country again. It's nice to finally see the Bush realm come to an end after 8 years of bringing this fine country down.
In 8 horrible years Bush has managed to start a pointless war and kill many innocent young men because of it, he put America in the largest debt it has ever seen, he crashed the economy and he killed many innocent Americans in New Orleans by poorly handling the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Yeah the Bush dynasty was America's finest moments wasn't it? Change has finally come.
Ms. Early, read your doctrine carefully. Your doctrine reads that Jesus brought a Kingdom from heaven on earth. You must understand that the Kingdom of God or Heaven is a government of God or heaven. In every Kingdom there is a king and a dom [domain]. Jesus or God, according to your doctrine is King and therefore never voted. Voting is against the Kingdom. When a King (Jesus or God) speaks, what is spoken becomes Law. Kings do not vote, they decree, rule, dictate, order ect. Voting is possible for a Democratic Republic system of Government that we live in. Democratic Republic basically means we are self-governed, or independent. This system of government holds elections to place people in power. In addition, the people (citizens) can gather to protest government policies and form groups to lobby the legislative bodies to change law. In the Kingdom of God, there is no election to place people in power and there are no changing laws. Jesus or God is King and when the King says, ?Homosexuality is an abomination,? that becomes law not a vote.//////Signing off from Jerusalem
The God or god bid seems to the most important subject in life. It seems that everyone (Christians, Buddhist, Muslims, Atheist ? humans) are searching for something or some thing in learning the purpose(s) in life and the key(s) to fulfillment. ??My Taylor, I was reading your note to Mr. Anderson and I just want to comment on a few of your statements as I sometimes do. You stated, ?You have no proof of your god?s existence, as I have no definite proof your god does not exist.????. First off, ?the proof is in the pudding? ? meaning the true value or quality of something [I am that I am (God or god)] can only be judged when it is (faith) put to use. Sir, you must prove to yourself the existence of God or god. If not, then you, as an atheist cannot draw a conclusion on or about God?s or god?s existence. Is this why you said, ?when one begins to use his rational and reasoning senses, he must take that journey himself, and come to his own conclusion??.........Secondly, in College, my philosophy professor gave me a book called ?The book of Logic.? In that book it read that ?a proof is a series of logical deductions, reaching the desired conclusion. And we know that a deductive argument can either be sound or unsound. But my point is that it is impossible to think on God?s or god?s existence logically???..Thirdly, it is utterly impossible for you to prove that God or god does not exist. Sir, if you believe that there is not God or god, you cannot prove NOTHING exists. One of my favorite philosopher said ?we could not know reality directly as thing-in-itself. What is real in itself is beyond our experience. Even if God exists, we can not know God as he [she] really is.? Therefore it would be hard for Mr. Anderson to prove to you the existence of God.
Ms. Early and Mr. Taylor, I seriously want to meet you both. Perhaps, we all can have dinner at Cheddars! Ms. Early you stated, ?NOW I AM BEING WARNED that you are smarter than I am, and I am not to go there with you.? Who told you that I was smarter? I do not see myself as being smarter than anyone especially when it comes to these types of subjects.
Mr. Scott Anderson ? in response to your response, Jesus would not walk into a voting booth and choose to deny someone the right to commit their life to another person? Voting is possible for a Democratic Republic system of Government but not to the Kingdom of God. According to the doctrine, what happened when man tried to vote (give their opinion) in God?s Kingdom? And the scripture you gave was not Jesus voting, it was Adam (2nd Adam) decreeing -- do this make sense? In addition, talking to Mr. Taylor about Christ is not the message He (Christ) want you to give. Christ insists that you, Mr Scott Anderson, as a believer to declare the message that He (Christ) gave or declared.........Mr. Taylor, I will have to disagree. I have study many religious persuasion and I will say the Christian doctrine is one that I find having no contradictions. However, I am a young man still in the learning phases of life and can easily miss something. Will you call out at least two contradictions? Right now I am studying Islam and have been for a while -- I see many.
Ms. Early, I have a few responses to your comment that you posted on 15 Nov 08. You know Ms. Early, my ?springing off? may be because of Iraq?please pray for me.......I know it seems that I am easily confused. Since you are the sender and I am the receiver, help me to understand what it is you are saying. I would like to understand you madam?you are quite a character (unique)??About reading the scriptures, you are right??You will know them by their fruit? is talking about false prophets and that is why I used the terminology ?Counterfeit Christians.? But I do apologize, I should have made myself clear??And again, I am confused because what does ?The followers of Christ were first called Christians at Antioch? have to do with what has been said. And since I believe you are on that off note?Isa (Jesus) never called the ?saved? Christians. Do you call yourself a Christian?////////Singing off from Nazareth
"(and they won't be practicing homosexuals anymore either" Seriously the most outrageous and uneducated line Ive read here all year. You have trumped the early bird. Lets see some statistics on "converting homosexuals". How bout it Mr. Anderson?
Mr. Anderson, unfortunately my hell-bound atheist soul has no remorse for supposedly "offending" you and many other people. I cherish my right to free speech just as much as you sir. You posted an entire comment referencing biblical scripture as some type of "fact." The United States of America is not a christian nation, nor a nation preferred nor protected by your god. You must understand, I have the exact rights to post my non-belief that you have to post your "faith." You have no proof of your gods existence, as I have no definite proof your god does not exist. Just as you don't believe that Buddhism, Islam, or the thousands of other religions will get you to heaven, I simply go one tiny more step and include your god in the same fantasy realm. I was a fervent christian for 18 years sir, I know the book. Like Ive said before, teaching children such nonsense as actual reality should be criminal. For those demanding me to post my own research, and that of others, I'll refrain. After being born and bred in the church, I take great pride in the many hours of research I've completed myself, reading books and digging through many primitive cultural histories. Pasting some website URL in an attempt to "prove" my belief to committed christians is asinine. When one begins to use his rational and reasoning senses, he must take that journey himself, and come to his own conclusion.
Mr. Taylor, please post a list of all the errors and/or contridictions in the Bible. The chapter and verse will be all I need, I can find it with that. If you need to make comments there probably won't be enough room. I have heard many people say what you say but no one has any proof. By the way, if you don't believe in God tell Him so and tell Him to prove He exist are who the Bible says He is. If you don't believe in the Bible, tell Him to prove it. God says He will and you will be very glad He does. If you are right you have everything figure out already. If I am right you are in deep trouble. Don't take what you see as fact. God's word is not for you to interpret alone but by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Give Him a chance even if you think you have it all figured out. John 3:16 is for you and everyone. God's word is meant to protect and provide for us, not to debate.
Thanks you Mr. Taylor for your appreciation for the sacrifices us soldiers are making in the Global War on Terrorism. I am, also deeply humbled and appreciative of your support to our country?s serviceman (especial me, a native of the Great City Kingsport). And Mr. Taylor I also have an old saying "Freedom is not free? is a quote dear to me, and I must thank you for your support.
Taylor, I suggest you go to the following web site before you start throwing out any supposed contradiction: http://www.bringyou.to/apologetics/bible.htm#INDEX
My heart is far from being cold as I want everyone to believe in Christ - he has forgiven me and can forgive anyone who asks, even homosexuals (and they won't be practicing homosexuals anymore either). You are the one with the cold heart as I can feel the hate as you offended me, all other Christians and God himself with your blasphemy and heresy. Nevertheless, Christ will forgive you if you, too, if you ask.
Mr. Anderson, ill-translated scribbles from thousands of years ago are a sad place to build an entire lifetime. The book you speak of contains over 100 contradictions of itself. Just about every story in the bible that christians claim to be "miracles" also occured in pagan mythologies, many, many years before the stories of the bible. From the virgin birth, to the resurrection, its all part of earlier tales of "salvation." You can stand firm and tell me I represent heresy, or you can begin to research for yourself. Homosexuality has been in society long before your god murdered millions of innocent beings in the name of a loving "divine plan." If your heart has grown so cold that you quote scriptures to prevent two people from proclaiming a love for one another, maybe its time to look in the mirror.
In response to Eric Taylor: Yes, Jesus would vote against homosexual marriage. Jesus said in Mark 10:
6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
10 Reasons Gay Marriage is Wrong
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) If we legalize gay marriage, the divorce rate will go up, because gay people can't stay together. That's why the divorce rates in Massachussetts are the highest in the country and growing.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
Sen. Obama's voting record is readily available to anyone online. You can find the truth for yourself.
It's funny that Ms. Early mentioned "big babies." After reading some of her posts, I was thinking it was past her nap time.
Granting Americans equal rights is not an issue that is to be placed on election ballots. The Mormon church, along with many other religious organizations raised millions of dollars and spent many man hours in a drive to deny equal rights to citizens of another state. Ms. Early, do you truly believe Jesus Christ would walk into a voting booth and choose to deny someone the right to commit their life to another person? More than half of marriages end in divorce now. At first I thought a compromise of Civil Unions would be sufficient, but after the dirty campaign ran by supposed "born again" groups from all over the country meddling in California politics, I will now fight for the right of all people to have the option of MARRIAGE. You are not the judge of civil rights. You may judge everyone in your own mind, but applying religious bigotry to a free, democratic society of equality will end...pay attention for the next decade. Democracy is not Theocracy.
I am deeply humbled and appreciative of your service to our country Mr. Hale. The old saying "I may not like what you say, but I shall fight for your right to say it" is a line dear to me, and I must thank you for your committment. And in the spirit of that liberty, if Ms. Early truly believes everything that she posts here, its quite frightening to me. Thankfully the hard-line, non-progressive, arrogant right-wing movement seems to have slowed considerably, with many folks totally disgusted with the "agenda" and irrelevant issues which brought Obama to the White House.
Ok, I read the history. All I am hearing is that Christianity and the religion of Bigotry are contradictions and counterfeit Christians are known by their fruit (what an interpretation). However, I see nothing that would tie into or lead you to say, ?There are issues concerning Obama that go back to Alexander the Great. Emmanuel.....(meaning God with us) in Hebrew.? (Early 3:16) Again, I am confused and I am content with my state of confusion?let move on. ?..Maybe the blacks voted for free choice, than the act of disgrace. Does this make sense? Anyways, Ms Early I am not picking on you. Matter of fact, I like you ? you speak what you feel and you will fight to the end. Take care/////////////////signing off from?
Thank you Mr. Lenoir????.I am sorry Ms. Early but you have lost me. What on earth do you mean? Please do not speak to me in parables or riddles. At this point in time, I am just a simple man. Which history am I supposed to know ? Obama and the Clinton Clan or Mary and Jesus and the etymology of the name Emanuel? And what does Jesus have to do with my previous comment. Why is Jesus even in the picture? I have allowed myself to get confused about your comments?.LOL, Mr. Taylor, I believe Jesus is coming on a White Horse?.. I have to go now.///////Singing off from Galilee
Oh. My. God. The end is here. Do you not see it? This guy has the same name as EMMANUEL!!!! HELLO!!!! I can almost hear the trumpet now...farewell my earthly, unsaved brethren. For the lord himself is on his way back. Or is he the White House Chief of Staff..hmm..wait a second here...
Mr. Mannino, It appears that you did no research. I do not understand why you are even posting a comment about the election. The beauty of an election is that it gives you the right to choose for yourself and take an active role in the determining the future of America. They say (whoever they are), if you do not vote you have no voice to make a change; your vote is your voice. Sir, you have no voice and your complaints for the next four years are ineffective. Like Mr. Taylor said, you did not even participate in the election process. And what does any of theses people (Caesar, Pol Pot, SS officers) have anything to do with President Elect Barrack Obama? What an insult to you as an American (I am assuming), the American people as a whole and to President Elect Barrack Obama for even comparing his character with these ?evil geniuses.? If you not know or have not recognized that our country is Democratic Republic. I leave you with this; if you do not like the way the system is arranged, run for the next presidency. Also, there are 195 +/-countries in the world?get in where you fit in.////////Signing off from Baghdad, Iraq
Mr. Mannino, you admit you have no idea where Barack Obama was born. You also pretend to not know what his first name is. You did no research whatsoever, I must assume. Then your comment closes with "I will not recognize the man called Obama." Did you even participate in the election process? Sir, the nasty campaign season is over. As of Wednesday morning, 52 + 48 = ONE. We are ONE nation indivisible. Sometimes families fight and bicker, but we are still ONE family. A refusal to recognize your Commander-in-Chief? I know of many places on earth where that statement would get yourself involuntarily silenced.
Yes; people cheered alot in history. They cheered for Caeser. They cheered for Pol Pot. They cheered for the SS officers. And now they cheer for Obama. Notice I didn't put anything in front of his name? I don't really know what his name is. Barry, Barack, or others. Gee whiz; I don't even know where he was born.
As you may guess, I didn't vote for him. But I didn't vote for John McCain either.
But I know Sen. McCain's name, and his history. Obama; who really knows.
Remember, even evil people are cheered. But not because they're loved or cherished. It's out of fear and desperation.
So, I will not dignify Obama with any title. He has conviently hidden most of his past. And the little I've seen of his past is troubling.
So praise him. Cheer him. Let knee touch the ground. But I will not recognize the man called Obama. He is a mystery of the ages.
A very troubling mystery.
I did not vote for Obama, because I did not (and do not) believe he was the best choice for the job. I can't say I'm really disappointed, though, as I wasn't crazy about McCain either. It was an election with no candidate worth getting excited about. I won't moan or exercise my hyperbole skills about the results, as so many have done with their need to demonize Bush. I will be interested in seeing what Obama can actually do in office; what promises he keeps and how much he can actually accomplish.
I am confused on what the griping is all about. I want to know what the problem is? Maybe I can help.
To All! I have read with little interest, mostly just bored reading, all of the comments on this post. Thanks for the entertainment, but I am saddened at the hatered that has been spread. As a few of you have mentioned, the election is over. America has spoken. We are no longer the Democrats vs. Republicans. We are Americans. And I think it is high time that we start acting like Americans. . . "One nation, under God," instead of hating each other. After all, we all want what is best for our country, Right?!?! We have different opinions of what is necessary to make us a strong nation again, but we must agree that we do all want the same final result. We have elected a new President who will be sworn into office in a few short months. Give the man a chance. Let's all just stand together as Americans and work together. If we continue to fight each other, we are only weakening ourselves as a country. We need to strengthen ourselves instead. Get over the hatered. If your candidate did not win, get over it. You cannot change it at this point. Let's all get out of voting mode and get into restoration mode, and try to help continue to make American a great place to live. God Bless America!
Exactly Brad. Not as a Republican or Democrat, as an American, I am excited by the fact that for a first time, in a long time, the American public is passionate about what is happening in politics. So whether or not you agree with who the country chose as their President, we should support him and his endeavors to at least try and change in this country. With a failing economy, two wars costing us an arm and leg every month and more foreclosed houses than we know what to do with, it can't get much worse and I think a lot of us are in position where it is going to have to get better - soon.
Now is no time for people like Ms. Gottwald to sit around posting nasty messages on a website just because she is angry about the country's decision. I was always taught if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. We have to stand together as a nation or we shall certainly fall.
So sorry to have offended you John Reese but when I am called a lier I get upset, wouldn't you?!I suppose you call that fair commentary to call someone a lier that you have never even met?If so you two belong together...
Hey, I've got a radical idea. Why don't we let Obama take office before we condemn him OR sing his praises. He hasn't done anything yet. Nothing good or bad. I didn't vote for him, but I will stand behind him until he loses my trust. I hope that he becomes the best president this nation has ever seen, because, honestly we need it! It was not only the Republicans who got us in the shape we're in today, nor was it only the Democrats; it was all of us. I've heard enough from the right and the left. If the truth were told, most of us are somewhere in the middle. It's the far-right and far-left among us that cause most of the problems, and I've noticed some of both on here. They are the kooks! I guarantee that most of us have a similar mindset whether we are Democrat or Republican. It's just at times like this we get pulled a little farther to the left or right. Obama is not the Anti-Christ, nor is he the Messiah. Let's give him a chance before we start treating him that way.
I couldnt agree more with you Mr. Reese. No one likes a negative person...hence the reason McCain didnt win the election!
Angelita do you have a life? It seems as though you just sit around and post nasty comments about people who are just expressing their opinion. Why do you care what she or any one else on this message board thinks? It is just that, a message board and on the Kingsport Times News website for that matter. Do you think anyone or anything is going to change because of your outrageous views. You are exactly the type of person who is giving the Republican party a bad name and driving thousands of young voters away from our party every year. They are sick of the mud slinging and finger pointing that happens a lot in our party and this is a prime example of that. I have to agree that you pretty much told this young woman that the state of Tennessee was glad she was gone. They are probably pretty glad you and your fancy Lexus don't live there either.
With that said, I agree with her that these message boards are for fair commentary and you have been far from that. And yes, I wish the election would have gone the other way but nothing I say on some message board is going to change that. Maybe we could all learn a little something from the people we are so quick to judge ourselves.
Mimia dear,I NEVER stated I was speaking for anyone other then myself.PLEASE DO NOT MISQUOTE ME!You are the one that stated unless someone lived in VA and/or experienced the Obama workers coming up and asking for you to register to vote that they shouldn't comment or spread lies!I only commented to let you know that yes,I do live in VA and yes,I have had these workers come up and want to register me and yes,I am aware of free transportation being offered. All of this is fact but when I bring that up to you then you just choose to ignore it.Seems like there's alot of selective reading going on here.People only choose to read what they wish, not what is there!Where did I EVER post I was speaking for anyone in TN?Could you please point that out?Didn't think so because it's NOT THERE!You speak of slander in one post but you better be careful of saying things about people that are NOT TRUE,that may just be construed as slander, huh?
"Wow - Tri Cities - that's all I have to say, is wow. I didn't like Tennessee and I got out of there as soon as I possibly could. I now live in metro DC"More DIRECT quotes from Mimia! For someone that doesn't even like TN you sure are quick to judge the people that live there!
I never said you cared anything for Tennessee Mimia.PLEASE DO NOT MISQUOTE ME!You stated EXACT words "I try to stay out of Tennessee politics as I don't live there anymore, thank goodness" Seems by that statement you are glad you no longer live in TN.I also never stated that I am speaking for ANYONE in TN.I am expressing my opinion only.As for TN politics I thought the Presidential election was nationwide not just for TN!When I question you on another comment you made about people shouldn't comment on what goes on in VA unless they live there I told you I do live there and I have experienced it first hand but you choose to ignore those facts.I suggest you READ the entire post before you jump to conclusions!
Barrack Obama? The 44th Elected President in the United States! I would like to say I do not think race is a big issue. Why would it? Barack Obama is an American regardless of his background. This event has truly sent a statement decoratively to the world. Many of the Iraqis, Indians, Nepalese, Philippians, Peruvians, Ugandans, Egyptian, Turkish, British, Australians, Danish, soldiers and workers I am associated with are astounded and elated about America?s elected president. I believe his ethnicity could be the bridge to the gap of the third world countries and his presence could be the eyes of America. We (Americans) have credibility of who we are and what we stand for. Barack Obama offer a greater opportunity to move to this new idea?this new transformation?this new message about America?this new moment of time where we can desirably unite the American people, and perhaps, unite the world in terms of faith toward, fellowship with, and fidelity in each other.//////////Signing off from Baghdad, Iraq (vegas).
Before I comment, let me first say that I am neither Democrat nor Republican; I have voted for both sides, and will continue to do so. But the one thing that amazes me is those that blame Democrats in Congress for the current economic turmoil because they (Dems)have been in the majority for the past 2 years. It takes longer than 2 years for economic downturns and recessions to occur. Things were already beginning to deteriorate. I can remember when the price of gasoline was approaching $3 a gallon - before the Democrats took control. The housing crisis was created by those in lending and Americans taking on loans that they probably knew they couldn't pay for. This was not the government. And let's not forget our national debt, which grows daily. The majority of that is due to the astronomical cost of the Iraq war, a war that virtually the entire government voted to enter into, a war that began in 2003, not *after* the Democrats took control. Oh, and of course the bailout of Wall Street, which will cost us, and our children, and their children. That was also done by people from both sides. I'm not saying Democrats are perfect, but don't blame only them for the state of our economy today.

I'm glad to know that note from the facilitators of this comment board has completely fallen by the wayside and I did not realize that the comment boards on timesnews.net were to be used to personally attack and slander others but that is neither here nor there. While, at this point, I am continuing to read through the postings more for the shear entertainment value than for meaningful content I just felt the need to stick up for myself. To Ms. Gottwald, I am so glad YOU are so eager to speak for everyone in Tennessee considering YOU supposedly live in Virginia as well. Indeed laughable. As to your question as to why I care so much about Tennessee, it is because I grew up there and I truly care about the people who live there, my parents, grandparents, sister who attends college there. I care about them and the politics that affect their lives. And while they most certainly align with the conservative, religious Republican viewpoint, like most people on this site, they respect my views and would never go to the extent of name calling, hatred, and mud slinging that some people have reduced themselves to through these postings. I am only providing my "fair and balanced" opinion as your beloved Fox News would call it.
As to our friend who says he will fly his flag at half-staff, how dare you. As someone who has had close friends and family members fight and die for this country I should hope that you would not be so unpatriotic as to use the same sign of respect and honor that is reserved for a fallen hero for such a ridiculous display of intolerance.
Again, "I" didn't get "my" liberal president. He is our president, whether you voted for him or not, On January 20, 2009, he will put his hand on the Bible, the Bible that says to love your neighbor and respect your fellow human being and he will be sworn in as OUR next president. I absolutely cannot wait!
Cal Thomas' essay in this morning's paper is required reading for all religious conservatives.

I think it's great that the 50% of America voted for "hope" and "change" because that's what you got, I just "Hope" that he and his pals Reed and Pelosi don't "Change" us to a socialist state. When all else fails he can make Bill Ayers the secretary of defense....he's already shown that he can blow things up. I "hope" he makes good on his promises and "change"s the laws to bankrupt the coal industry like he said he would since all the coal mining states voted for him. He's already "change"d his mind about tax cuts and spelled that out for you in his acceptance speech. I "hope" that you can pay for your home mortgage since you now owe about 50% above your homes value since he and his friends "change"d the rules so we can all just hug each other and make sure everyone can live the american dream. I "hope" that when the terrorists return....and they will since our country just got emasculated that we can "change" and start protecting ourselves again. I "hope" that Obama isn't as far left as he acts because you can't "change" your vote now. To the neocons, the moderate republicans and the ones that want to reach across the isle and hug everybody....please get out of my conservative party....you are screwing it up.
I'm going to fly my flag at half mast, for atleast the rest of the week.
How unspeakably sad. We have a chance to fix all the wrongs that have been wrought on our country, yet we are unwilling to give the man a chance - he has not even been inaugurated but we have condemned him to failure. *** The majority of Americans who voted wanted this man to be president. The entire world is celebrating his election. Yet here in our little corner of the world, there is still meanness, hatred and garbage talk - business as usual. *** After having lived through the worst eight years in my life - and that's not an exaggeration - I have hope for a better future for my children and grandchildren after last night. But if I just look at the comments here, all I see is hate and more hate. *** If only you could be as gracious as was John McCain in his concession speech last night, how much more pleasant this would be. In fact, if McCain had been as soft-spoken and kindly as he was last night - during his campaign - he'd be the president-elect now. He chose the extreme right-wing way of campaigning - demean your opponent at every turn, even if it means lies and exaggerations. *** For those who comment here, a suggestion: when someone sends you an e-mail that simply smears another person - a presidential candidate - or if Fox "news" spreads rumors and accuses Democrats of being terrorists, socialists, Marxists, or worse - go check it out for yourself. There's snopes.com and urbanlegends.com and other web sites to find out if those rumors are true or false. The truth is out there. It will do you good to find out for yourself and not be brainwashed by the right wing of the Republican party. *** One man had it right - even if he spelled it wrong - the country was on the verge of becoming a Fascist nation. Look up the 14 signs of Fascism and you will see what has become of our country over the past eight years. If you had, you would be afraid - very afraid. *** To respond to one specific poster here: Professor Umbridge? No. She represents the Bush administration's view of governing. V for Vendetta? Oh, heck no! Here's the description (Wikipedia, I think) of V for Vendetta: "Fourteen years previously, Britain had suffered from war and terrorism. The SOCIALLY CONSERVATIVE and OPENLY FASCIST Norsefire party led a purge to restore order; enemies of the state (MUSLIMS, JEWS, BLACKS, HOMOSEXUALS, COMMUNISTS) {sound familiar????] disappeared during the night. The country was divided over the loss of freedom until a bioterrorist attack occurred, killing about 100,000 people. The fear generated by the attack allowed Norsefire to silence opposition and win the next election by a landslide. (Terrorist attack? Governing by fear? Sound familiar?) A cure for the virus was discovered soon afterwards by a Norsefire company. WITH THE SILENT CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE Norsefire turned Britain totalitarian, with their leader Adam Sutler as High Chancellor." *** This sounds exactly like the way the Fascist government of the past eight years took root, and in the movie, V was instrumental in taking back the country from the Fascists. *** It amazes me that someone who is so conservative would even watch the Harry Potter movies or V for Vendetta in the first place! That requires a very liberal mind-set. But the fact that the entire concept was corrupted and misunderstood speaks volumes! *** Much too long post. Sorry. Had to get it all out!
i'm still so happy! i'm so proud of this country! we did it! and for the guys who stole the obama sign in my yard (and most of the signs around kingsport) and egged my property.. your hate and thievery amounts to.. epic fail!
As an intellectual conservative (and not a religious one), I can say the core of the Conservative movement is in crisis, distracted off course over the years by activist religion with dominionist views. Today, most elected conservatives fail to make the distinction that while its okay to be a religious person in office, their first obligation of holding such a position of government power is to their nation and not to their god. And if they cannot make that distinction, they need to step out (or get shoved out, like we saw yesterday). I wish the Conservative movement would get on to solving this problem for themselves, rather than cranking up the cries of socialism behind the alternative. William F. Buckley, who died last February, was no fan of George W. Bush, whom he didn't regard as a true conservative, and toward the end of his life he seemed deeply dismayed by the influence of the evangelical movement over the Republican Party. Christopher Buckley, who says he was once genuinely fond of John McCain, switched over to Obama in part out of disgust at the way McCain has conducted his campaign, but largely because of his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate. I, also, withheld my vote in protest over Palin. The religious right, an entitiy that rode in the back seat during the Goldwater and Reagan era, leaned forward and grabbed the steering wheel of the Conservative bus, and attempted to steer it from the back seat, causing it to ultimately crash. Palin is simply the religious right's next trojan horse, a dominionist dressed up in a Ronnie Reagan suit to get through the door. She is the equivalent of more backseat driving.
Also Mimia you say people that don't live in VA shouldn't comment but I know you're not refering to me.I would like to know why you are so quick to comment on Tennessee when you DON'T LIVE THERE!You also seem glad to no longer live there but maybe Tennessee is just as glad to be rid of YOU LOL
Actually Mimia I DO live in Virginia so I suppose I can comment on things I DID encounter first hand :) Seems strange to me that free transportation was offered for THIS election but not the last or the one before that.Maybe it wasn't as important for the "poor, disadvantaged" as you refer to them to vote in those elections?Makes you wonder why though...Oh well, sweetie you got your liberal President but we'll see how things are going in a year or so when yes,I will be driving my Lexus with my sticker that still reads "Obama-Change that scares the hell out of me!" and yes,it does!
The majority of the comments left here make me ashamed to be a white Tennessean. People do your research, you are so easy, you believe every smear ad that was out there. Our country needs unity not the continuation of racism. This poor attitude has gone on long enough. God made EACH of us in His own image regardless of race. We are to love and support one another and I am proud to say that YES, I support Barrack Obama and I did my research and the majority of the nasty things you have to say here are so untrue and unfair. Lets stand together as a proud Tennessee and a proud America and stop the nonsense.
WHY ARE WE ARGUING? BARACK O'BAMA IS OUR NEWEST ELECTED PRESIDENT OF OUR NATION...REMEMBER OUR "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" WE ARE ONE!!!!! I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND FOR THE LIFE OF ME WHY WE CHOOSE TO REGRESS AND BE ARGUMENTATIVE AT SUCH A CRUCIAL TIME IN OUR HISTORY. IT IS WHAT IT IS. BARACK O'BAMA (A HALF BLACK/HALF WHITE MAN) IS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!!! WE ARE SUCH A BLESSED COUNTRY. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE. DID ANY OF YOU LISTEN TO WHAT MCCAIN SAID LAST NIGHT? HIS SPEECH WAS NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME AND WE SHOULD ALL COME TOGETHER FOR THE BETTER OF OUR COUNTRY THAT GOD BLESSED US WITH...IT IS SO UPSETTING TO SEE 31 COMMENTS ON HERE AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE SAYING NOTHING POSITIVE. WITH THIS ELECTION WE ARE TO PROGRESS IN AMERICA....BUT HOW CAN WE WITH THIS MUCH ANIMOSITY AND HATRED? PLEASE PEOPLE...PLEASE....NONE OF THIS IS HELPING ANYTHING. AGAIN...WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!!!!
Wow!Obama won?t even be ?officially? in office until Jan 20, 2009 and it has already started. After reading all of the posts here, I could not remain silent! Did I miss a rapid rise in the number of abortions performed overnight? Did people just suddenly rush out at midnight and get an abortion since Obama won? To use the term ?baby killer? is beyond offensive! The Democratic Party?s main approach to ?pro-choice? is by preventing unwanted pregnancies from even starting through education and abstinence programs. Unlike the Republican Party?s approach to ?pro-life? which is mainly restricting or eliminating access to abortion. If anyone would care to research this issue, abortion rates overall have steadily declined in the United States no matter which party was in power! For all of you fear a socialist America, remember that besides the ?welfare? everyone here wants to sign up for there are many ?socialist? programs we all use on a daily basis: police, fire, water and sewer, national guard, military, highway departments, public schools, state universities, and the US Postal Service too. If you really fear Socialism that badly, please stop using these services immediately. As for religion around here, seems like a majority of the self proclaimed ?Christians? practice selective interpretation. In my opinion, most ?Conservative Christians? I have tried to have a discussion with are intolerant bigots & hate mongers. After all what is a ?Christian? anyway? Someone who votes for only the most conservative Republicans? I feel that kind of ?Christianity? is the mirror opposite of what Jesus embodied! For me it comes down to one of my favorite verses: 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (Regardless of your political party!)
Obama is not a socialist. Those who think so bought the republicans' and Faux News' lies hook, line, and sinker. The republicans had 8 years and they made a mess of things. If you are upset about Obama winning the election, you can point the blame at Bush and Cheney. They raided the piggy bank and we will all pay for it for years to come. But most of the people commenting here will most likely blame Obama just like Limbaugh and all the other racist hate-mongers have blamed everyone but Bush. If y'all would open your tiny little minds, you might see that the republicans have played you for fools. They had no qualms about taking your tax dollars and giving them to Wall Street for spa vacays and crap. But Obama wants to cut taxes to give the middle class a break and make the fat cats (who have not been paying their fair share) take a little more of the financial burden and they've got you yelling "socialist" all over the place. Think people! Use that thing that sits on your shoulders. It's not just for holding your hat.
This will be the last post I make on this topic. There is something that I STRONGLY advise anyone regardless of their politics - MAKE SURE YOUR FACTS ARE FACTUAL.
In response to Tina about TN's income:
Please take a look at these - http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income/income04/statemhi.html - low yes, but in 10th place from bottom and not bottom 3.
And here - http://www.ecanned.com/TN/Sullivan_County.shtml - only 8.4% below TN's average. And certainly not the poorest or even close. Likewise the figures are showing a fast track increase in average income over the past several years. Please make sure you know what you are talking about before passing off MIS-information. (Although I have come to believe over the last few decades, that this is the liberal way - passing off unsubstantiated (bogus) information as truth and enlightenment.)
The above information is based on the US Census, not some bogus blog.
I just finished skim reading through the posts here and found what I rather expected. Hatred - from the usual source - liberals. Such as this one:
"... To all the narrow-minded, hate-mongering, bigoted, so-called Christians of East Tennessee..."
I did not see any posts here from those opposed to Obama say anything about hating him or bigoted remarks toward nor even about his religion.
Every comment was in regard to what APPEARS to be his plan for tearing down the USA and rebuild it into first a socialist nation and finally a communistic country. Essentially turning the USA into a 2nd rate country. Shrug.
However, I do believe America gets what it deserves. I expect the military to be chopped to levels even lower than during the Clinton regime. The intelligence services once again reduced to near nothing. (I remember reading the article about 13,000 FBI being recalled to the US during the Clinton cuts in intelligence. What happened to the NSA and CIA are more than likely expected to be just as severe.) After Carter began the destruction of intel services we got the embassy held hostage in Tehran. After Clinton cut intel services even further, we got 2 embassies blown up, the USS Cole and 911. Shrug.
I expect to see companies and corporations being taxed out of business. Such as what happened with the 10% luxury tax passed during the Clinton regime on yachts that cost $100,000 and higher. The result was that all the luxury yacht builders went out of business and more than 50,000 people were put out of work. Very quietly, i.e., pg 6 of section C in the newspaper reported the repeal of the luxury tax. Too late. Shrug.
Since Obama has had as friends of which a large number of these people, including his wife Michelle, that I term as the "Hate America First!" people, I truly believe he wants to destroy the USA and rebuild it into something that resembles the movie Brasil or V for Vendetta.
This will be done as the Democrats are full well indoctrinated into doing, incrementalism.
The idea that there should be a federal agent in the Human Resources office in companies across the country, reminds me of Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Shrug.
Simply to my mind, America deserves Obama and the Democrats. Why? Because far too many people in the US are full of hatred (Democrats) and/or too ignorant to understand what they are doing. Shrug.
Socialized health care is around the corner. In no country that uses socialized health care, England, Canada & France, does it work even as well as what our screwed up system does. (Every time I talk to someone that whines about how expensive health insurance is, I ask them about what their expenses are. Such as cable TV, how many TVs do they have, how many PCs do they have, how many vehicles they have, etc. And suddenly it becomes obvious they could easily afford health insurance IF they gave up some LUXURY item or two.)
I'm just sad to see it.
And I don't really mind if a few dozen liberals call me a "hate mongering, bigoted, Christian wannabe" because I just feel sorry for them.
In Richmond they provided FREE transportation to the polls, there was a number record of absentee votes from the county jails and convicted felons/people that had never voted before voted so it was no surprise to me that VA is a blue state.Obama had paid people to go around and register voters, people would actually come up to you in stores and offer to register you!
It is a sad day for our nation and I can't wait to see what all the Obama supporters have to say about their "wonderful" President in a year or two!
I wish I hadn't come back here and read the other posts that were made after my post this morning.
Sentence after sentence, you people are doing nothing but reinforcing all the "stereotypes" given to people in this area. You know? The things you get all defensive about and want to act like they aren't true?
God isn't going to hold you accountable for how other people live their lives, but he IS going to hold you accountable for the hate, judgment and bigotry in your heart.
God doesn't force anyone to follow His Word, just as He warns us not to judge others. What He does tell us is to worry about our own personal salvation.
But many seem too busy worrying about forcing everyone to be like them, and not worried enough about what God is seeing in their own heart.
I hate to break it to some of you, but the Bible does not tell us to "Love other white conservative Christians as I have loved you".
It's amazing. Tennessee is consistently ranked in the top 3 poorest states in the country, year after year. East Tennessee is one of the poorest areas of Tennessee. We have one of the lowest average incomes. We have one of the lowest wages for occupations compared to wages for the same occupations in other parts of the country.
And what is different about us from most of the rest of the country? We always vote Republican, for every political office. In fact, the majority of the poorest states are Republican strongholds.
Do any of you understand what I just said? You might want to read back over those last two paragraphs if it didn't sink in.
Le'Michelle you said "Tennessee like Missouri and Arkansas is a state that really doesn't care for blacks". Are you serious? It's this kind of race baiting that will always continue to divide this country. I didn't vote for Obama because his beliefs and policies are in direct opposition to mine. If he were a conservative candidate I would have proudly voted for him, regardless of color or gender. A conservative's right to vote against and speak out about, what is in opposition to our beliefs is just that, our right. As a staunch conservative I believe with all my heart, soul and mind that you have that right as well. It has become crystal clear to me during this election cycle that the far left is not tolerant, but rather full of hatred for anyone believing otherwise. My friends who are conservative Democrats are so ashamed that their party has been highjacked by the far-left. As an American I will stand behind the President, but make no mistake, when he supports legislation that opposes my beliefs I will speak out loudly. Our military have fought and died so that I may do this, and I thank each and every one of them. God Bless America.
Very happy to see Obama elected for president, and I know that this is another chaper of more people that hates blacks or other colors.
As I read some of the comments, I'm saddened of the fact that some would express their viewpoints in which are allowed, BUT should not be tolerated because of the tone that is expressed in. Tennessee like Missouri and Arkansas is a state that really doesn't care for blacks. I'm so sorry for that, but the fact remains that Bush did his job, he caused a lot of people to loose jobs, and to think that Obama was the cause of that, when he isn't? Here in this area are more white people on assistance and food stamps than you could ever imagine, but to see how white people line up every day at Full Gospel Mission for free food, nobody thinks nothing of that, but yet whites want to point the finger at blacks. I guess the pastor at Full Gospel is suppose to feed the whites, knowing that there are many whom are racists. I just wish that people of all colors would take responsibility for their actions, and stop accusing the president elect. But I know some people are just to narrow minded to do that. But one thing is for sure, how are you people that think negative about this man going to react when he does turn things around for the better, and ends up helping you to stay on top of things? Are you then going to feel good, or just keep on complaining about black people? You can't change the world people, only yourselves.
Can you do any better of a job, such as what has been done in America? If so, then why aren't you running for president? I rest my case.
yay Obama!!!! He is truly here for the American people and im glad our country felt the same!!!! G0 OBAMA
Thank you so much for your post Allison. Is is so refreshing to see someone embrace what this country is all about. It sounds like the Tri Cities you grew up in is the one where I did too. And though it appears that some residents have lost that good natured respect and love of their neighbor, I hope more will follow in your footsteps. As one of those young voters, I have a renewed sense of confidence in America and the power of it's people. I too respect George Bush. I don't agree with most of the decisions he made, but I know that is the hardest job on the face of the planet and who is to say I would do any better. But I didn't sit around and complain about it and slander his name and spread lies about him and his family, I did something about it. I voted and that is the most powerful statement of all.
Well said Mimia.
McCain won the rural vote outside the rust belt. Obama won the cities, and some rural areas inside the rust belt. Methinks that putting Palin up there, writing off the cities and talking about "the more pro-America parts of the country" wasn't the smartest move. It was classic Rovian divisive politics. And it was the only play they had available, on account of her less sophisticated pedigree. Putting her up in 2012 results in more of the same. They will have to embrace those cities, and embrace those alleged "non-pro-America" areas, and she's not the vehicle to accomplish that. When McCain was tamping down the boos during his concession speech, he gave those familiar "disgusted" looks that were first seen when he had to grab that microphone back from that crazy woman ranting about some Arab. His frustration with the "idiot factor" within his own camp of supporters had become more and more evident. He is probably glad that he didn't win, and that he can now retire and not have to deal with the idgits. I have to give him credit, he is a political statesman. I just think he feels disappointed by the stupidity factor of his more simplistic followers. Let down by their lack of respect for the process. Let down by their lack of class and tact. I was very proud of John McCain last night, a true gentleman, hero, and national leader. It's unfortunate that many of those who voted for him can't show the same class and magnanimity.
Welcome to the USSA.
Wow - Tri Cities - that's all I have to say, is wow. I didn't like Tennessee and I got out of there as soon as I possibly could. I now live in metro DC and am very proud to say I helped turn Virginia blue yesterday. I'm a registered independent and think it is very important to carefully evaluate what a candidate stands for, what is best for you and what is best for the country. I have to say I am appalled at the hatred and ignorance that I read on a daily basis as I scroll through the pages of timesnews.net. I know that most of you will believe the extreme pandering of radical conservatives and that's your right. It is America after all, where anything can happen, and anyone can be President. What I can't believe is that you claim to be God fearing, church going Christians and yet you are some of the most judgmental and prejudice people I have ever come in contact with. Think what you will, but today, November 4, we are no longer Republicans or Democrats, we are once again the United States of America and no matter what you believe, on January 20, 2009 this country will have changed for the better and will never be the same.
I was very moved by John McCain's speech last night. He was very gracious and held his head high. Very dismayed at all the boos interupting him, though. I understand the way those folks were feeling. But, to boo during such a heartfelt speech was really uncalled for. I am willing to accept the fact McCain did not win and will try to welcome change in our country. I do not wish to move to New York or San Fransisco just beacuse I am willing to get behind our new president. The greatness of our country is that people of differing opinions and ideals are free to live anywhere they choose. There are narrow-minded people everywhere. Respecting our president is something I feel all of us should do. Whether we approve of his ideas or not. I know there will be those who say they will never respect Obama. I did not agree with many things George Bush did in the last eight years. But, I respect him as our president. Knowing what is right and wrong in your heart and soul is most definitely something to tell others about. But, yelling, cussing, insulting, bragging, whining and making others feel nothing less than dirt is plain and sipmle cowardice. I have really learned that the hard way, and will admit I have been guilty of it many times in the last few months. Acknowledging when you have been wrong is hard to do. And I applaud anyone who can admit to their mistakes. Cowardice is found in all walks of life, all over the country and in all different races. So, before putting that "Don't blame me, I voted for McCain" sticker on your vehicle or going off on a tirade about quitting jobs, standing in welfare lines or any other hot button topics, take some time to think about how you approach these issues. What are our actions saying to others? Do we want our young folks growing up to think rudeness and ill-mannered behaviour are acceptable? I was taught to be polite and respect everyone. Not just people I liked. I was also taught by my parents, and the Bible, not to hate anyone. I don't think I, personally have any right to tell others HOW to think. I do, however have a right to voice my opinion. I just need to make sure I don't use my voice in an insulting, disrespectful manner. I have a friend who is a new Christian. She has been checking up on me and reading these posts. I have to say I am very embarassed for some of the things I have said on this site. She asked me if Christian meant Christ like. I said that it does. She pointed out to me that being a Christian has nothing to do with insulting others. Morals and values are something to cherish. Something to teach to your children and something to express to others in an honorable way. Show others the goodness in you. This country is going to get worse morally. No doubt about that. I just want to be one of those people that try and make a difference the right way.
Thank you Andrew, apparently we are the only non-racist people in NE Tennessee. It is pathetic how closed minded you people are. Very sad. These people are the reason why America was the way it was for the past 8 years. It's nice that the rest of America is coming to together and embracing change.
I think that this was a big mistake. I never thought that the great USA would be a socialist country led be someone with terrorist ties but it is. When people finally wake up it will be to late. Hope all are ready cause its only going to get worse from here..
Mike, clearly it is people such as yourself that will perpetuate racism in this country. although i am not african american or muslim i am a minority also, and am offended by your remarks, and i imagine most of the country would be also. what this country needs is for everybody to work TOGETHER to help make the united states a role model for the rest of the world. it is time for a change... you might want to consider a change for yourself also, or else it will be a very long 4 years for you "my friend"
It's so funny that the stock market went to the highest its ever been while Bush was in office. Its so funny that it has now started dropping for the past 2 years since the democrats took over the house and senate. Do you always have to blame someone for your problems? Who are you going to blame for the next 4 years? If you are having problems look in the mirror, it all starts at home. Also, if you don't like TN move!
Grover, I am appalled!! I figured you would want me to quit my job and let you work and support me and my family. That is what socialism and Osama are all about, right?? You should know since you support his policies!!
So has Osama posted the time(s) of day that we all need to kneel and face the east and pray to ALLAH??
Good riddance to Bush and the GOP for a terrible 8 years. Change is finally here, the republicans have no power and I love it!!
How embarrassing that our country would elect a man(black, white, purple,or plaid) that is a self-professed socialist and has ties to individuals with terrorist activities who obviously are anti-American. On a happier note, I am extremely proud of our great state of Tennessee for standing up for it's conservative values and voting against socialism.
Lock the doors and bar the windows. This is going to be a very expensive and rough ride. Remember the changes that the new government will put in place will last much longer that four years. Thank goodness for the constitution.
Hey Michelle, if you don't like the way the good people think here in Tennessee or in this area, then friggin' move. Your "awesome" and "enlightened" way of thinking would do well in the cesspool that is, oh, New York or San Francisco. Some of us had more sense than to put a Socialist in the White House. I'm all for people expressing their political opinions, but get a life and quit bad mouthing the people who also expressed themselves and voted for McCain. Have an fantabulous day honey.
I don't feel I deserve a tax credit at the expense of other's financial successes and wealth. If someone wants more money, they should work hard and earn it. Spreading the wealth is penalizing success and achievement.
A president with the greatest potential since Kennedy. The time is certainly ripe for change, and for a true leader to make a difference. I just hope he has the will, courage and conviction there to back up such inspirational words. This is a tremendous result for America and for the world. I am filled with confidence, for the first time in several years, and believe the terrible legacy of Bush will finally be laid to rest. We wish you well President-elect Obama. And for closed minded racist people like Mike Jones, go ahead quit your job and leave the country, America doesn't need people like you. People like you is part of the reason the Republican reign has ended.
Yesterday, as I was sitting outside my daughter's elementary school waiting for her to get out, a car drove freely past the school with "Obama S**** F*** Blacks" written across the back window.
Last night, I was moved to tears of joy as I watched our country tell people like the person in that car that THEY are the true minority in this country.
Wooohooo, I just quit my job and I am heading to the welfare office to get my free handout. Thanks Osama for helping me sit on my rear and spend other peoples money!!
yay! i'm so proud of our country for electing a man who is intelligent and refreshing! kinda disappointed in tennessee though. narrow-minds prevail around here.
If you don't have any wealth to spread, then that means you'll be getting a nice little tax credit. ;)
Well, I guess it's a good thing that I don't have any wealth to spread!
