Recent history suggests that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama — who will campaign in Bristol, Va., today — will need more than Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen’s coattails or state Democratic Party unity to win Tennessee this year.
“I think (GOP presidential nominee) John McCain will have longer coattails in Tennessee than either Bredesen or Obama,” Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, predicted.
Democrats didn’t fare well in the last two presidential general election contests in Tennessee, and the last election in the state was far from going Obama’s way.
The Tennessee Republican Party (TRP) points out that Bredesen and Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Gray Sasser — superdelegates who declared their support for Obama on Wednesday — are now on the side of a candidate who lost 86 of Tennessee’s 95 counties to Hillary Clinton in the Feb. 5 Democratic presidential primary.
“They have endorsed a candidate who knows the price of arugula at Whole Foods Market but criticizes rural Americans for ‘clinging’ to God and their Second Amendment rights,” Bill Hobbs, TRP’s communications director, said in an e-mail.
But McCain wasn’t the first choice of Tennessee Republicans or a number of the state’s GOP leaders. For instance, Ramsey initially backed former Tennessee U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson. Tennessee House GOP Leader Jason Mumpower of Bristol, a Ramsey ally, supported former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
McCain came in second in the Tennessee GOP primary behind former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who actively campaigned in GOP-leaning Northeast Tennessee.
Former Tennessee state Sen. Jim Holcomb, a Bristol Republican, said Huckabee’s supporters are more likely to back McCain than Obama.
“I think it’s wonderful that Obama is coming to Southwest Virginia,” Holcomb said. “It’s the bastion of conservatism for Virginia. That says a lot for him and his sense of need to reach a broader base of the voting public.”
In Northeast Tennessee, Democrats have been outnumbered by Republicans in state and national election contests.
In 2000, Tennessee native son and former Vice President Al Gore got less than 40 percent of the vote in many of Northeast Tennessee’s counties when he lost Tennessee to Republican George W. Bush.
During Bredesen’s first term in office, Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry lost Tennessee by more than 350,000 votes in 2004 to Bush.
Bredesen has had mixed results actively campaigning for Democrats in Tri-Cities legislative races, although he took all of Tennessee’s 95 counties during his 2006 re-election win.
The governor endorsed Ramsey’s 2004 Democratic challenger in the 2nd Senatorial District, Sullivan County Commissioner John McKamey, who lost by more than 20,000 votes.
Bredesen also campaigned for former state cabinet member and ex-Washington County, Tenn., Sheriff Fred Phillips, who lost a contentious race against GOP incumbent state Rep. Matthew Hill of Jonesborough in the 7th House District in 2006.
But, in 2004, Bredesen campaigned and raised money for Democratic state Rep. Nathan Vaughn of Kingsport. Vaughn defeated GOP challenger Neal Kerney in Sullivan County’s 2nd House District by nearly 4,000 votes.
Vaughn, an African-American who attracts swing voters, often describes himself as a lawmaker who works for all the people in his district, not just Republicans and Democrats.
“Senator Obama draws an even larger picture of America,” Sasser said in an e-mail. “He paints a picture of an America where we no longer define ourselves by our divisions, but define ourselves by what unites us. And what unites us as Democrats, Republicans and Independents, what unites us as Tennesseans, is the belief that this country can do better.”

Well Mr. Taylor?trying to call me out. Sense you said the least about me (believing anything creative in mind, attempting to "educate" others with my unique perception(s) of my own reality?encroaching) then say the most. But first ?educate? me on the ?double-talk? bid and second my mission sense you have an idea of what it is not. I am willing to be a student under your teaching. In addition, because I am entitled to create anything in my mind, I say that ?double-talk does not fit. And I say this with courtesy and respect toward your belief or opinions that it does.//// Signing off from Baghdad, Iraq the Flip-Flop Barrel Scraper.
Mr. Hale, sir you are scraping the bottom of the barrel. You are more than welcome to believe anything your mind is capable of creating, but attempting to "educate" others with your unique perceptions of your own reality is encroaching, to say the least. And yes, "double-talk" does fit sir. Along with "contradictory" and "flip-flopping." Again, you are totally entitled to create anything in your mind, though please use courtesy and respect of others' beliefs and opinions, especially in a public setting.
Yes Mr. Taylor, I knew someone would say I contradict myself because I said, ?I have personal religion beliefs.? First, I would like to say that I reread everything that I wrote before I write again. Second, Mr. Taylor?I do not have any personal religious beliefs which does not change the fact that of my purpose/duty in Iraq is to influence the environment with the Kingdom of God. Wow, it does sound like a contradiction if you do not understand the word ?religion? and how it does not relate at all to the Kingdom. Therefore, no, I do not have any personal religious belief and the belief I have is not personal. I guess that there is a terminology discrepancy./////
You must know something that I do not know. Please explain to me what my mission sense you know what my mission is not. And double-talk actually does not fit, go and look it up. However, it is not really worth my time to explain color to a man that is color blind. Perhaps I just contradicted myself./////
Oh you said, ?You represent the FREE country of America?? My Colonel once told me that our country is not FREE, just the American way of life?go and figure?////////signing off from Baghdad, Iraq
Mr. Hale, you have contradicted yourself quite a few times in this column. First, we hear that you have no personal religious beliefs. "I have no personal belief in regards to religion and/or spirituality...". In your most recent post, you now state "I have a duty here in Iraq and it is not me being a soldier for the US Army...This give me a lead way to do my primary mission which is not to convert them; however, to share with them the Kingdom of God." Mr. Hale, you represent the FREE country of America, not the Kingdom of God. Your mission in Iraq is absolutely not to "spread the good word." Please refrain from the double-talk lectures in the future, its a different story every time.
Mr. Dale St John, Baghdad is great now that we are not getting attack by rockets and mortars. Unfortunately there were few people killed when they were pounding us with rockets but fortunately it was only a few people. I believe there were like 300 plus rocket and mortar attacks in the month of April following into May. The only thing now we have to be on watch for is abductions or kidnappings; however this area is well secure. Oh and also they (whoever they are) are shooting their small arms in the air towards our direction hoping the bullet hit someone. Other than that, things are quiet especially in Sadr City where most of the ground fighting was taking place.//////Now back to the posts. I was only seeking clarification of your question about how Christianity (bible) and Islam (Qur?an) similar. In the past I have debated with several people about this subject because they had no idea that there were similarities. However, I understand your question and I guess I cannot compare you to others for it seems you have some knowledge about Islam?at least the basics.//////I have a duty here in Iraq and it is not me being a soldier for the US Army. It is something for greater than that. I have learned little Arabic and have talked with many Muslims about the Qur? an and the Bible and they (the one I have conversed with) seems to be fascinated for to the fact I can speak little Arabic, I have knowledge of Islam (Qur?an), and I disagree with most Christian about the Bible. This give me a lead way to do my primary mission which is not to convert them; however, to share with them the Kingdom of God. You right that the Muslim only sees Jesus [(Isa) peace be upon Him] as a prophet placing Him in the same category as the other prophets (Muhammad, Abraham, Moses peace be upon them all) and not the Son of God. And that is why I never mention that Jesus is the Son of God to them (at first) because not that they would kill me but it would kill the mood. I mention about the things Jesus preached which is a kingdom message (and which most Christians do not understand themselves). The Muslims people I have talked with are very attentive because they said they never herd the Gospel in this way. And like I said before, I believe it is because I have knowledge of Islam, understand their culture, and a little of their language?they believe it is fascinating.//////There are no scholars around the combat zone./////Let me get back on the subject of this article. One thing I like about this article which is the KEY to a united country, it is found in the very last paragraph of this article. It reads, ??Senator Obama paints a picture of an America where we no longer define ourselves by our divisions, but define ourselves by what unites us. And what unites us as Democrats, Republicans and Independents, what unites us as Tennesseans, is the belief that this country can do better.?? //////Now, I think the problem is that many believe that Obama is Muslim and the country/constitution was founded on biblical principles and the only solution of a united country is to have commonalities about religion (if I can use it respectively) and/or spiritual beliefs. Everything else (systems of government) will then follow./////I hope I explained that correctly////signing off from Baghdad, Iraq.
Mr. Hale, hope you are well. How are things in Baghdad? I realize there are similarities between the two religions. They both are rooted in The old testament. But here is the difference, and why they are not the same religion. Christianity is rooted in the belief that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God. Ask any Muslim if Jesus is the SOn of God and see what answer you get. To accept Islam, you must deny that Jesus is God's Son. Jn. 3:16 says"FOr God so loved the world that He gave His Only begotten Son..." So to accept Islam you must deny this basic concept of Christianity, which is it's very foundation. Also, we believe in criticism of the Bible...that debate is healthy, but just try and debate the Koran in an Islamic country and see what happens. The validity of Islam is not permitted to be challenged. To criticize or critique in any way will result in a fatwah proclaiming that the perpetrator be killed. As you have posted, the scriptures have been translated from other languages and you can see how Muslims believe thay have been corrupted. But has anyone been allowed to hold the Koran to such scrutiny? To do so would mean death. All I say is they are different religions that share some core beliefs. But the one belief, the Divinity of Jesus, reveals the difference. They see Jesus as just another prophet, and not the Messiah. So just ask a learned, scholarly Muslim if Jesus is God's Son. Or better still, proclaim it in a Mosque. You will have instant verification that they are not the same thing. But have on your track shoes when you do!!!!
Mr. Dale St. John, it is you again?how are you doing? Listen, I will explain to you the similarities between Islam and Christianity. First, are you asking if there are similarities between the two or are you asking if the two are one in the same? Now there are similarities between the two. Both Islam (Qur?an) and Christianity (Biblios) have similar Commandments, basic concept of ?The Lord?s Prayer,? faith principles, practices, and moral codes. They both talk about Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon and Jesus (peace be upon them all) as prophets, and both mentions heaven and hell./// Now, if you read the Muhaddith and Sunnah, you may understand that some Islamic scholars understand the importance of Biblical scripture. The catch is they believe that Biblical scripture has been tampered from it original meaning. In some ways or another I can understand their concern now that I have a good understanding of Hebrew and Greek translations. Nonetheless, the Qur?an states that Jesus is the Holy on from Allah and instructs Muslims to hear Jesus and the Gospels.//// And about the 2+2=4, both Islam and Christianity believes that so I do not understand your point.//// But before I go any further, I need clarification of your question ?how are they the same.?////Oh just for some additional information, you might want to read the Muhaddith and Sunnah.////
As far as Obama being a Muslim, only he and time can can answer that. But I would like for someone to exlain to me how Islam and Christianity are the same? At Northeast State a few years ago, a student in my Composition class made that statement and an educator wholeheartedly agreed. Christ stated that "For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten son.."John 3:16. Rev. 1:18 the Lord says"I am he that liveth and was dead... John 14:6 "I am the way the truth and the life..." Also the New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus was born of Mary. If one believes this, then how can the claim be made that Islam is the same when the Koran teaches.."They say God has taken unto Him a son..Say, "those who forge against God a falsehood shall not prosper." Also..they are unbelievers who say God is the Messiah, Mary's son. In Sura 5:73,78 we find "They do blaspheme who say:"God is CHrist, son of MAry. Now if they are the same, how can we, on one hand, believe the Bible which speaks of Christ's Divinity,as being true, and also believe the Koran is true, which calls this belief a blasphemy? If I told you that 2+2=4, yet it also doesn't equal 4, would you not think I had lost my mind? It cannot be both ways. If you went to a Muslim country and preached CHrist the Son of God, you would probably be put to death. Furthermore, Muslims do not believe Christ was crucified, let alone risen from the dead, which is the basis for the Christian belief. So how can it be the same thing, as some profess? I did not wish to turn this into a religious debate, but it seemed to me that there should be some clarifications on whether or not CHristianity and Islam are the same. To accept Islam, one must deny the Divinity of CHrist, the very basis of Christianity. And as Christ said so long ago, "Who do men say I am?"
Mr. Taylor, I knew it, I knew it, but you may never know. First off, it is not good to read in-between the lines?there is nothing there. Secondly, explain how the comment I made validated Mr. Thomas?s post. Thirdly, I have no personal belief in regards to religion and/or spirituality?what is truth? Fourthly, who said we are fighting a religious war? Fifthly, it would be wise not to worry about the things you cannot change. Oh and perception can be deceiving.////
Please remind me of the topic so that I may stay on it////signing off from Baghdad, Iraq
"...even though Christianity is not a religion." Mr. Hale, you simply validated Mr. Thomas' post with that opinion. If I'm reading between the lines correctly, your statement must refer to your personal belief that Christianity is a truth? We are not fighting a religious war sir, and with that statement, I am now worried as to how some of our fine men and women are perceived across the globe. Mr. Hale, "stay on topic."
Mr. Thomas, Mr. Thomas?lets not question my whether I have or don?t have a clue that the ?Muslim god and the Jewish and Christian God are the same?? However, to answer you statement that you placed in the form of a question, yes, I do have knowledge of the all three religions (even though Christianity is not a religion). Again, you are attacking the person and not the claim, and this is not even the subject.////signing off from Baghdad, Iraq
The article title is "Obama faces uphill climb winning Tennessee in November" and to that I would not disagree. The point is who cares? TN has never had any influence on the outcome of a presidential election and will not likely influence ave any in the near future. Look at the results of the republican primary in TN - TN is out of touch with the rest of country, and will likely remain so. Why is out of touch? Look at the comments; "Obama is a muslim, and if you believe in God, then you should know that Obama's god is not the one you want to be apart of" - people who hold that belief should not be allowed to vote as it shows they have no knowledge of reality. Wow - you don't have a clue that the muslim God and the jewish and christiam God are the same, do you? And yet you have the privilege of voting. It is no wonder a president like G.W.SHRUB got elected, twice.
Listen people you have totally gotten of subject. The subject is, ?Obama faces uphill climb winning Tennessee in November,? not the claims of religion, racism, sexual orientation ect. Even if you are getting off the subject, in an argument, you are never to attack the person only the claim from that person. Some of you are substituting cruel, foul remarks for evidence when attacking another person's claim. Meaning the attack is directed at the person making the claim and not the claim itself. I believe I just got off the subject?/////Signing off from Baghdad, Iraq
People need to review the candidate's voting record and decide if the person asking for their vote has the same core principles and beliefs as their own. People should not vote for any candidate on the sole basis of pigmentation, genitalia or age. By the same token, these factors should not stop you from voting for a candidate as well. The true character of the candidate lies beneath the skin, reproductive organs and wrinkles.
Thank you for that insightful clarification, Le Michelle. Though now I'm even more confused about who I'll support. Who's Barach?
OKAY FOLKS! That's the end of this, and YES I for one will step up as a person of responsibility, and say that 1st of all I am keeping a copy of EVERYTHING that has ever been stated on this thread, and IF anyone wants to attack me in conversation, go ahead. BUT, I still say that if the shoe fits, e=wear it. When you call Obama a Muslim or talk negative about him like you do, it's wrong. 2nd, Mr. Howard, If you really think I'm wrong at my statements, Okay, then I apologize, BUT it still doesn't take away from the truth, and your statements about his former-pastor & church, you did say what you said. RIGHT? RIGHT. I am only pointing out the facts, and if you people can't read trutg without getting upset, then to bad. I'm not pissed, but I'm a little concerned, cause a lot of people don?t won't to see Obama get this far. AND just yesterday, I had a white gentleman at a gas station in Bristol to tell me, "WHY DON'T THEY JUST SHOOT THE BLACK MAN?" You want to tell me that I don't have valid reasons for my statements? There are also just as many blacks that don't won't to see this man get in office as the whites.
If you want to be mad at me, go ahead, cause there's nothing you can do to offend me. Trutg is truth. To the other gut that had a statement concerning my post, well you or no other person in this community can hurt my stand as a Christian person. If I were you, I'd be more concerned about the people in the pulpits that are trying to steer you to go the way they want you to go. And furthermore, please don't try to use me as an excuse to try and say, that that is the reason why you're having such a hard time in deciding whom you want to vote for. You have your own mind, and if you are persuaded by others to tell you who to vote for, then you need not and vote. Cause you will helping them out instead.
Now, unless someone has something further to say on this issue about my statements, I suggest that everybody just try to read, and let it go, without putting on boxing gloves. I by no way have intended on offending no one, but in my giving a history note on the white men and black women, that's facts in history. Mr. Howard, you should know that is history, if you study history like I do. I'm offended by blacks marrying whites and vice-versa, because it's the children that has the hardship of dealing with the communities as they grow up. Facts is facts.
Thank you Mr. Finley, I accept your statement. It is not on my part to offend, but I'm just stating facts, and I guess some people just has a problem with that. OH, Mr. Howard, the statement, "Good 'Ole Boys"? I don't mean nothing racial by it, I know you're white, just like I call black people the N... word when they piss me off. But by no means could you ever be a Good Ole Boy. Maybe a little lacking in education, concerning others you don't even know. Yall' have a good day, and try to prepare to getting along with our newly elected president - Barach Obama. Cause I believe he's going to get elected. Good Day!
I tend to agree with Newt Gingrich who said that Wright is attempting to sabotage Obama. Should Obama succeed, his gains are going to reduce alot of the anger over black injustice that Wright makes his living off of. An Obama presidency is one less thing for the Wrights of the world to claim injustice over. So while Obama and Wright may have agreed on black church issues sufficiently to stay for 20 years, they no longer are aiming for the same goal and the gloves are off. Why this is such a big penalty for Obama in the minds of Appalachian idgits is unknown to me. You people who continue to be so hung up on bad data surrounding the Muslim thing really baffle me. Should we reject McCain equally because he is Episcopalian? Why is any one religion any more "bad" than the other? Oh , hey, wait, isnt government supposed to be seperate from religion? Ooops, I forgot that Jr. Bush was the first Commander-in-Chief in our nation's 232 years to create an "office of religion" within the fedreal government.
Folks - This thread is quickly evolving into a flame war. Let's consider this a line in the sand on comments. You can disagree with someone's opinion without making it a personal attack.
While I'm still undecided as to who I will support November, the rant posted by Le'Michelle is the exact reason Obama has lost support in the past few months. The accusation that white people are "Racist" if they do not support/agree with Obama is absolutely nothing more than a failed attempt at "reverse psychology". As far as your outlandish statement "...you judge Obama for Jeremiah Wright's statements, as if he is responsible for him and his pulpit", are you kidding me? Ms. Michelle, does YOUR pastor carry on hateful tirades of this nature? Would you sit in that congregation for more than a decade if you didnt agree with what your pastor is preaching? Your attacks in that post against everyone here will do nothing more than continuously chip away at your credibility, and cause the undecideds to take a step back and re-think any notion they may have had in actually voting for Barack Obama.
Bill Howard, you really amaze me with your comments and reply. I can't even imagine you being a decent enough human being that would have the nerve to want to call someone a name of race or their so-called culture, when in fact you don't have the slightest ideal who in the Hell your speaking about.
And let me say this too; based on history, if the white men would have never had sex with the black women in the beginning, there wouldn't be such a fuss now would there? I mean, that why black get offended at whites, because based on history, white men raped black women like they were nothing. And then wants to get jazzy at blacks for their standing up! I wish I would even think of some man of color attacking my wife. There wouldn't be a court nor judge, I'd be it all. That's why white America is so-called threatened by the people of color, because they know the wrong that has been committed, and still being committed this very day somewhere in the U.S.A.
Now, just because that Obama's mother was a white woman, and his father was a Kenyan, gives you NO right to judge Obama of his race. My father is a Frenchman, if you know what that is. In other words, he's not from this part of the country, BUT yet I'm not black, nor am I white.
You just simply have a problem with this man all because you?re stupid to follow the media of what they want you to believe about this man. And furthermore, it's always been a major problem with the media in white America taking things to the extreme, just to make people like you fume at the mouth over something you have no ideal of.
All I know is, Obama is a mixed person in color, although the media says he's black, BUT two counts for the blacks.. cause right now mixed inter-racial families across America are out numbering the whites in the country. So with that being said, I leave you with this; His leaving his church shouldn't had to have happened, but I would have done it too, because the fact of the matter is, when you get with the wrong crowd, you get labeled as no-good by society. I'm sure you know a little something about that don't you Mr. Howard? I mean, don't white America have a major problem of always stereotyping blacks and Mexicans etc., because of their skin color? I see it every week in the local churches right here in Kingsport. And what's sad is, God is going to deal with the pastor's that are promoting all this racism from the pulpit, weather they're black, white, or beyond. Dr. Wright was mis-understood by the press, they took it out of context, caused Obama to be ashamed of what happened, and all because the white news anchormen & women did the dirt. And yes people like you and others sat and watch it happen, while Obama took the hit. BUT, he was more of a man to handle the matter than the people who created the dirt. Now how much of a man are you to handle matters in a very wise manner like that? What would you have done in the very same case? Would you have stayed at your church with your pastor in the very same matter as this, or would you had left like he did? It's likely that you probably would have stayed, because most racist {if they're truly racists}, stick together. Get a life Bill, stop being a racist towards Obama, he didn't do nothing to you. And if anything at all, he's going to help you in the long run, cause George Bush certainly helping you is he?
And Mr. Howard, a fifth grade education isn?t something to brag about. However I want to remind you that Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university professor, political activist, and lawyer before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.
Now I do believe that is way above your head, unless you went online to get a fake degree in education, in which you can do. BUT it doesn?t make you any smarter.
Lay off the man?s back. He?s smarted than your boy Bush & McCain. And Bush isn?t as smart as you really think. War, debt, foreclosures, factory closings, the list is on and on.
Go back to school my man, and learn some more facts of real life and history.
Le Michelle, I strongly resent being referred to as a racist and I demand an apology. Nowhere in any of my three posts on this thread (two of which directly concerned Rachel Morgan) did I make any statement that in any way could be construed as racism, or an endorsement of keeping other races out of heaven, or whatever other nonsense you mentioned in your last post. The only thing I said about race was the line "He is a man who claims to move beyond race yet attended one of the most racialist churches in America for the better part of two decades." Please explain for me how this line makes me a "Good Ole Boy." People who can read English objectively, and not twist sentences out to say whatever they want them to say, would realize that this sentence implies that Obama SAYS something at the rostrum and then DOES something completely different. How you get racism out of that is beyond me.
Le` Michelle
I'm Not Black and it don't matter that I'm white.
Smarts, a little more than a fifth grader, not sure about Obama, He is a Muslin no matter what you want to believe and not smart enough to get out of Wrights church until it started to hurt his electability. So Sad, did God create even one equal, sometimes it makes you wonder
OKAY, all you guys that are so smart in politics here as to make some very stern hard-core statements about Obama, and his being a so-called Muslim and belonging to a racist church, and his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright making a derogatory statement over the pulpit of what is and has been taken out of context - "Damn America?" First to John Davis, Dr. Wright never said Damn America in the way as it has been received by the people, including yourself. He was saying IF you bothered to listen to the speech, that God would DAMN America for the mess and corruption that America has done. Also I note to our comment to me that Obama is a Muslim, Where in the heck do you come up with the facts to support your comments? Do you have any ideal who Obama is personally? NO. BUT because the media and the filthy corrupt internet and it's liars has spread lies and pics that Obama is a Muslim, makes you want to believe that he is. But at the same time, you judge Obama for Jeremiah Wright's statements, as if he is responsible for him and his pulpit. You say that you are a Christian? Do you attend a ALL WHITE congregation? I just bet that on Sunday there's not one black person in the crowd is there? Is that making everybody including the pastor a racist? You seem to set on the supreme court bench along with Judge Thomas, and makes un-just decisions. To Ms. Rachael Morgan, boycotting the election because you don't think things are fair? Well the best way to do that is you don't have to vote, AND you could be like Whoopie Goldberg was when she said, if Bush gets in office, I'm moving out of this country. You do have a choice you know. Just like there are splits in peaches that are no good. Just move on and stop complaining. To Bill Howard: If it's such a problem for you to see with a fiar opinion, then just stay out of the voting booth. I'm sure nobody would miss you on election day. AND if you're a republican, well... Kiss John McCain tootsie, cause he is only trying to make America stay where Bush has us, and that's NOWHERE. They make the big bucks, and people like you and all the other's are so blind, but yet keep making them richer. And you can't even muster up enough courage to run for presidential office. So lay off the people that are obviously smarter than you. An believe me, Obama is smarter than all of you, or else you would be in his shoes right about now. And finally to Richard Brown; Man you must be one of those Good 'Ole Boys. No Offense, but I just love it when I here people talk trash concerning race. I mean, I just bet you're a Christian, BUT people like you will stand at the gate of heaven along side Jesus, and tell Jesus - "NO blacks or other races allowed in heaven". Whites only! You do remember the 1960's?
You need to take the blinders off and see the real America, to where the white race is NOW becoming the minority, along with the blacks. In closing, how many of you here in the form today, went over to Bristol to see and hear Obama? Mmmm? I think it really is important that ALL of YOU people try to see where you are, try and stand in His shoes, and then come and tell me that you still feel the same way you do right now. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves, for you hidden racism and judging statements of someone you can't stand, because He's part black, part white, and most of all, smarter than all of you, cause he graduated form law school with a degree, and has proven to white America that he is responsible enough to do a well done job. But if he fails, he can't be no worse than the current president - Bush.
I'd like to see any of you run for office. I'd just bet you'd be like Fred Thompson, drop out.
I'm tired of this, and it's like Obama said on today, it's time to move on, away from all this racism hatred mess. Let's be positive, instead of negative.
From the desk of Upper East Tennessee, This is Le` Michelle reporting.
And by the way, instead of you people worrying about Obama, you better be more concerned in the high oil and gas prices, that NONE of you can do nothing about. But you know SO MUCH, but yet KNOW VERY LITTLE! My, My, My. So Sad!
Ms. Morgan, I have two points to make about your post. First, someone who worked on and around Capitol Hill should probably know how to spell it. Second, and more importantly, you seem to regard an absence of evidence as confirmation of whatever point you believe. How can you be convinced that an idea you hold is false IF you see things that aren't there and control both sides of the argument? Everyone says that Obama is not a Muslim yet, in your opinion, some evil cartel of gray-headed men are sitting in a room somewhere dictating what information we receive. Perhaps we should get Fox Mulder on the case.
Ms. Morgan, you worked ON Capital Hill? I understand the need to always be a bit skeptical of anything written by someone else, you do your own homework and come to conclusions for yourself. How is it that you are ultimately knowledgeable about all the "real news", but you, yourself, aren't able to broadcast said news? If you totally submerge yourself in the wide-ranging "conspiracy theory" realm, eventually you won't believe anything is real.
Paranoid, I am not. A realist, yes. If you think for one minute that everything you read and hear in the news is true...then shame on you. The Conspiracy Theory is not just a movie but is based a heck of a lot on facts. Any news concerning any political figure is edited and written according to those who are supposedly, "looking out for the best interest of the people". Nothing is ever written or broadcasted without the consent of "big brother". I lived in the D.c. metropolitan area for almost all my life and have worked in and around on Capital Hill. The things I've heard and seen would blow your mind. The information that is never and I do mean never relayed to the public is astonshing.
Ms. Morgan, you win the award for most paranoid poster of the day. If you think the media is lying to us, why are you posting to a newspaper's website?
For me, this election isn't about the Presidency. Its about the Supreme Court. I'm not worried about Obama's credentials, as Jr. Bush has proven that this country can survive the biggest warmongering screwball idiot holding the office of President. What this country cannot tolerate is a ultra-conservative court that would doom the remainder of what personal privacy rights we have left in favor of the of the agendas of the big business or God crowds. The impact of a bad choice for president has a life of 8 years. The impact of a bad choice for Supreme Court lasts a generation or more. As for Obama and the local perception, I find it amusing that the Appalachia region seems to be the primary geographic area that is so hung up on the black and Muslim misinformation issues. I'm embarrassed that my neighbor is uneducated enough to think that way. Its very sad.
Obama is many things. He is an inexperienced politician who claims to advocate "change" yet surrounds himself with some of the most contemptible elements of the Democratic Party. He is a man who claims to move beyond race yet attended one of the most racialist churches in America for the better part of two decades. He is an Ivy League lawyer who has had by all accounts an easy life yet claims to understand the common man, whom he finds "frustrated." He is many things, but he is not a Muslim.
I find it quite amazing to think of the implications of an Obama presidency. Within a span of 8 months time we could go from a president who has been ridiculed without mercy to a president who cannot be criticised at all without charges of racism. It has already happened in the Democratic primary ...just look at what they done to Geraldine Ferraro and former president Clinton. Any type of criticism was met with charges of racism. I can't stand the Clintons. But it was Bill Clinton who brought the Democratic party back from oblivion. THe "first black president" is what he was called...and this is the thanks he gets..to be accused of racism. I worry about the messiah like worship that Obama receives. They clamor and faint at his sight and hinge themselves with child like adoration on his every word. You can pull up the quotes and videos and hear the comments for yourself. I wonder if they are looking for a president or a Savior. That scares the hell out of me. And they talk about the religious right being crazy!!!!
"Debunked as false", by who??? The media only tells us what they are allowed to tell. If you really want to get down to it...what do we even know about these candidates other than what the media reports?
Personally,I think we the American people should boycott this years Presidential election! No good will come out of whoever we choose, if we do vote.
None of this matters anyway - the powers that be already know who will win the election - this is all just for show. You have to have controversy and conflict to sell it to the public. This country has not been "for the people" in many years. Its all about the money and who can make the most of it. If you doubt this theory - look at gas prices. Nuff said
I would have to bet if you voted for BUSH it was a better vote than for OBAMA. I did not vote for Bush and dang well will not for Obama. Big Mistake for our Country
"Obama is a Muslim"...C'mon, Ms. Morgan. If you have proof of that, you could be raking in the big bucks selling the info. Reading chain-emails and interpreting them as "Facts" is senseless. This articles' comment section is already being flooded with baseless rhetoric from both sides.
I find it funny that everyone wants to blame the President for what does or does not happen in this country. Congress and Senate are the real leaders of our country.
And by the way, Le' Michelle, Obama is a muslim, and if you believe in God, then you should know that Obama's god is not the one you want to be apart of.
One believes in God and one is a vet - whoopi. I'm a democratic christian vet so there. How can any man sit in a church an listen to the so called preacher damn america and watch the congregation rant a rave behind him. Think about how this impacts his children. And if you think he didn't know about these things your a bigger fool than most.
Some topics should be off-limits to comments. National politics is definitely one of them.
Hey, Mr. Davis, have you viewed the WHOLE article here?
Look at the full contents of Obama's remarks concerning "clinging to God", and on the statement of "the rights to bare arms". If people that know God as their Lord & Savior is depending on God to make it, the how could Obama be wrong? I depend on God. Matter of fact, if it wasn't for God, especially living here in the Tri-Cities, I wouldn't make it. As to the right to bare arms? I as a U S Vet know that guns don't kill people, but it's the person that holds the gun. And if most people that buy guns get them because of "people of color" living in their neighborhood or gangs, they are apt to hurt someone, for they are living in fear, and mainly cause people of color is their enemy, but whites in the Kingsport area are creating more crime than blacks on the average. So what does that say? Obama is right in his statement. Check out the facts.
Hey Mr. Davis, it's kind of strange that you're the OLNY one making a comment about Mr. Obama here. Why don't you save the criticism for someone that doesn?t even work for the poor folks as you would call it. Like your republicans in the state of Tennessee, especially upper East. Remember Harold Ford? What was wrong with him? Mmmmm But he was to high yellow for the white folks to put in office. Remember all of that? Give Obama a chance to do before you say he can't. Besides, without all of the other people in office on both sides, you can't do much no how. And in closing, what has Bush done for the poor folks, as you call it? Choosing between can pet food to eat, verses buying gas they can't afford, plus wanting a job that isn't there because of the rich. And finally needing health insurance, that will never be secured, again because of the wealthy rich people that keeps their feet on the lesser than, but yet very important human beings. I'm a veteran, and I don't even exist according to the data base of the local V. A. Hosp., because of some screwball that has everything screwed up, and yet I can't get any assistance from this so-called great state, because of BS that you people created. You Have A Great Day!
I thought he didn't like us poor uneducated folk but Clinton and McCain does. Guess who gets my vote.
Mr Obama can stay in West Virginia as far as I'm concerned. Oh thats right he didn't go to West Virginia. Wonder why.
