Hawkins woman accused of beating boyfriend with dog leash

Published September 11th, 2007 | 0 Comments

A Hawkins County woman was arrested Friday for allegedly wrapping a dog leash around her boyfriend’s neck Friday and then flogging him with it during an argument.

Brian W. Mace, 51, 1546 Route 70-S, Rogersville, told the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon that he and his girlfriend, Ann Maureen Chance, 49, of that same address had been in a verbal argument when Chance allegedly wrapped the dog leash around his neck.

“Mr. Mace stated that he then grabbed Ms. Chance by the arms and pushed her to the ground in self-defense,” Deputy Daniel Lane stated in his report. “Mr. Mace stated that Ms. Chance then took a dog leash and began striking him with it.”

Mace then left the residence and went to a neighbor’s home to call police.

Upon their arrival deputies reportedly observed red marks on Mace’s neck and left arm.

Deputies then interviewed Chance, who allegedly admitted to striking Mace with the dog leash. She was told she was under arrest and ordered to stand up, but Lane stated that she was “very hesitant in complying.”

Chance then reportedly attempted to unhook the telephone and answering machine to bring it with her

Deputies told her to put her hands behind her back to be handcuffed, and Chance allegedly refused and had to be forcibly restrained.

She was charged with domestic violence assault and resisting arrest and is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 24 in Hawkins County Sessions Court.
