Eastman Chemical Co. Chairman and CEO Brian Ferguson announced Wednesday the company is investing $1 million in a new professional development opportunity for local elementary and middle school math teachers.
Called Eastman Scholar Mathletes, the initiative will send teachers to a two-week intensive math workshop at East Tennessee State University to better equip them to prepare young people for the challenges of the future.
Elementary and middle school teachers in Kingsport City Schools, and Sullivan and Washington County school systems will be eligible for the initiative. Participants will receive a $600 stipend for completing the workshop, plus another $700 for classroom supplies. Their $1,000 tuition will also be paid.
