Laura Bush scheduled to visit Sullivan County, rally support for Corker

Published October 27th, 2006 | 1 Comments

First Lady Laura Bush is scheduled to visit Sullivan County Tuesday to rally area Republicans for Tennessee U.S. Senate GOP nominee Bob Corker’s campaign, a source said Friday morning.

Details of the event haven’t been disclosed yet.

Corker and Democrat congressman Harold Ford Jr. are running a contentious race – marked by numerous negative TV ads on both sides – for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

The race could determine which political party controls the U.S. Senate. Democrats need to pick up six seats in the November 7 mid-term election to retake control.

A recent Rasmussen Reports poll showed President George W. Bush’s job approval rating at 42 percent, but Laura Bush’s job approval poll numbers have doubled her husband’s this year.

Over the six years that her husband has been in the White House, this is the first time that I have known Laura Bush to visit East Tennessee. I find that offensive. If they weren't scared of losing control of the house/senate, she wouldn't care if we existed. As my Daddy would have said, "I wouldn't walk across the street to see them." It's too little, too late.
