Woman killed in car, coal truck wreck

Published June 30th, 2006 | 0 Comments

At least one person, possibly a female Appalachia resident, was killed during a collision between a passenger vehicle and a coal truck on Business Route 23 in Wise County Thursday evening.

The mishap was believed to have occurred between 6 and 7 p.m.

The two-lane road, a heavily used coal haul road in Wise County, is locally known as the Old Norton Road and winds about 12 miles between Appalachia and Norton. Details were unavailable from the Virginia State Police late Thursday, but VSP dispatchers confirmed a fatal collision involving a coal truck occurred around that time and at that general location.
