Hawkins deputies look for heavy woman who attacked Bulls Gap restaurant employee with catfish

Published March 6th, 2007 | 11 Comments

BULLS GAP - The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office is looking for a "blond heavy frame female" who allegedly attacked a restaurant employee with a catfish Friday evening in Bulls Gap.

HCSO Cpl. David Lafollette responded to Di's Diner, 401 Highway 11-E, Bulls Gap, shortly after the incident occurred around 7 p.m. Friday.

Diner employee Tina Henry and owner Dwight Jenkins told the deputy that a stocky blond female standing 5 feet 5 inches or 5 feet 6 inches tall attempted to stuff a catfish dinner in her purse and then pay her bill without paying for the catfish dinner.

"Tina states that as the suspect was paying, they told her she would have to pay for the dinner in her purse," Lafollette stated in his report. "She (the suspect) then became mad, throwing money at the cash register. The suspect then walked outside, and Tina and Dwight followed.

"The suspect then threw the fish out of her purse at Tina, hitting her in the back."

Henry was not injured in the catfish attack, but the catfish dinner was ruined. The dinner had a price tag of $7.99.

Witnesses said there was a man with the female suspect, but he wasn't involved in the catfish attack or theft. The man did, however, flee with the female suspect in the getaway vehicle, a red and black F-250 pickup.

Witnesses were able to provide deputies with two possible license plate numbers, but one came back not on file and the other matched a green 2001 Suzuki.

The female suspect is potentially facing theft and assault charges.

Anyone with information about the catfish assailant is asked to contact the HCSO at 272-4848.

This is simple; this woman (I use that term very loosely) is a thief. Sounds to me like she already had too much to eat, well before she got to this establishment. If she is heavy why don?t they just call it like it is? She is a FAT woman who is a THIEF.
No where in this story does it talk about "all you can eat". So why does this woman think that it is? When asked by the police to give a description, I am sure they were as descriptive as possible, so the police could find this woman. Why do we have to bend over backwards to try and please criminals and anybody that supports them? If the thief were a short bald guy, I am sure they would have described him as such. This is such a funny story, about a fat thief whose get away vehicle was probably illegal. I am sure if that illegal vehicle were to have ran over someone and killed them, then certain people wouldn?t be taking the ?heavy? thief?s side.

I think the word "heavy" could have been left out of the headline. Period. If I put food on my plate in a restaurant, and cannot finish eating it in that sitting, I deserve the right to take it home. It isn't like I can put it back on the bar or buffet for someone else to eat. It will only be thrown out. How wasteful is that? There are people starving in this world, for crying out loud. In addition, for those who seem to stand in judgment, we don't know this woman's situation. There could be any number of reasons for which she took this fish. People need to realize that quite possibly there could be extenuating circumstances. If I knew where to find her, I would personally go out and catch her some fresh catfish and take them to her. Then she could have all she wanted, not have to pay for them, AND she wouldn't have to be publically ostracized. Enough said.

What is the big deal,if it was all you can eat and she didn't eat it all would it not be better to take it and eat it later INSTEAD of throwing it away?

This lady obviously tends to flounder around from restaurant to restaurant looking for free food! Maybe she needs to hook up with a real lineman such as Bill Dance and catch some dinner. Instead of having fans this lady may have some groupers! Instead of the phrase" You Had me at Hello!" this lady might say" I had restaurant staff at hook, line, and sinker!"

A laugh a day may keep a crappie, er fish, away!

Great that the catfish was recovered - but looks like we will have to wait to see "the one that got away". Please turn yourself in so we can read Jeff's follow-up story. Jeff please publish a picture on this.

Does this top the story of the Hawkins County jail inmates that escaped to buy beer and were caught trying to get back in to the jail ?-- not unless it makes CNN!
