Hawkins Christmas parade season kicks off Dec. 1

ROGERSVILLE — Santa will be a busy man the next couple of weekends as he makes an appearance in every Hawkins County city when the Christmas parade season kicks off on Dec. 1.

That’s not including Santa’s daylong tour of Mount Carmel atop a fire truck on Dec. 15.

The annual Church Hill Christmas parade will be Saturday Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. along Main Boulevard, with lineup beginning at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center parking lot.

Rogersville also hosts its Christmas parade on Dec. 1. The event begins at 4 p.m. along Main Street, with lineup at 2:30 p.m. at Rogersville Middle School.

The tree lighting ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse and will feature a performance by the Hawkins Elementary choir.

The parade theme this year is “Christmas Memories.” For more information, call (423) 272-2186.

The Bulls Gaps tree lighting ceremony will be at City Hall on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

The Bulls Gap Christmas parade, however, will be Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m., with lineup at 1 p.m. at Bulls Gap School. For more information about the Bulls Gap parade, call (423) 235-5216.

Surgoinsville’s Christmas parade is Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. with lineup beginning at 10 a.m. at the Methodist church. Call (423) 345-2213 for more information.

Mount Carmel’s Christmas parade will also be Dec. 8, but it will get underway at 3 p.m. along Main Street, with lineup at 2 p.m. a Hardee’s. For more information, call (423) 357-7311.

Mount Carmel will play host to the annual Santa Run all day on Dec. 15 when the Jolly Old Elf climbs atop a fire truck and hits every road inside the city limits as he throws candy to anyone who comes outside to greet him.

Here are a few other Christmas events to mark on your calendar:

* Rogersville Arts Council Holiday Market on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Occasions on the Square downtown. More than 30 artists, craftsmen and vendors from across our region will bring in the holiday shopping season. Children’s activities, door prizes and more will be available. * Rogersville Heritage Association Christmas Tour of Historic Homes on Dec. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Hale Springs Inn, where the tour begins. For more information call (423) 272-5171.

* The Parade of Trees Christmas tree decorating competition and exhibition will be on display in the lobby of U.S. Bank in downtown Rogersville beginning Dec. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. and will continue during business hours through Dec. 21. For more information, call (423) 272-2186.
