DUNGANNON — Santa Claus is coming a little early this year in Scott County.

Along with Mrs. Claus and one of his special elves, Santa will be stopping by Dungannon Intermediate School Saturday, Nov. 17, for the 12th annual Dungannon Christmas Festival. The event will also feature handmade items for sale, children’s activities and a visit from the Santa Train.

What’s for sale?

Festivalgoers can get a head start on Christmas shopping from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., when craft and food vendors will be set up inside the school.

More than 25 vendors will be on hand with a variety of items, including handcrafted jewelry, scarves, lotions, candles, wreaths, primitive items, handcrafted wooden signs, apple pies and peanut butter candy.

What else can you expect?

Children can enjoy the Kids Fun Zone, which will feature inflatable bounce rides. Santa'’s Mailbox will also be set up inside the school gym, allowing children to send their letters on an express journey to the North Pole. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the child’s name, and Santa will write back.

The Santa Train will pull into town around 12:03 p.m. At the train stop, Dungannon United Methodist Church and Dungannon First Baptist Church will hand out free cookies, coffee and hot cocoa, and Southern Revival will provide music.

At 2:30 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus — along with Elijah, one of Santa’s special elves — will be at the school to greet children and hand out treat bags while supplies last. Parents are invited to bring their cameras.

Dungannon Intermediate School will also hold a bingo fundraiser in the cafeteria and will be selling food. Bingo games will start after the Santa Train’s stop.

Platinum sponsors of the event include Fairway Ford and Courtesy Chevrolet. For more information, contact the Dungannon Development Commission at (276) 467-2306.
