KINGSPORT — Some of the best singers in the region will vie for the Kingsport Idol crown this weekend, and it’s not too late to secure your spot in the crowd.

Mark Kilgore, coordinator and host, said the talent show returned this year after taking last year off. Even with the yearlong hiatus, Kilgore said people have continued to show strong support for the event.

“I was very shocked at the huge number of people that were attending the shows,” Kilgore said. “Even after a year off, Kingsport Idol still has a huge following and group of loyal supporters.

“This year’s talent pool is extremely talented, and I look forward to the finale this Saturday when the best square off to see who will be crowned this year’s Kingsport Idol 2018 champions.”

About Kingsport Idol

Kilgore said the talent competition is in its 12th year, with no end in sight. The event draws contestants not only from Kingsport, but also from Southwest Virginia and Knoxville.

“I feel like Kingsport Idol works because it has the family aspect,” Kilgore said. “We have family members competing in different age groups, and they are helping each other in the competition as it progresses.

“Kingsport Idol continues to grow and be a huge community event, keeping alive music and singing talent in the region. It has become the largest talent competition in the area.”

Overall sponsors for the event are Knoxville TVA Credit Union and Bays Mountain Park. The sound sponsor is Cross Country Mortgage of Kingsport, the media sponsor is WTFM and the finale sponsor is Music Doctors of Kingsport.
