KINGSPORT — Have you ever wanted to experience the thrilling atmosphere of Las Vegas or perhaps to win a brand new Porsche?

If so, you’ll have a chance to do both at the Boys & Girls Club’s gala, which will be held May 12 at 6 p.m. at MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center.

The event will be themed will all things Las Vegas, and a 2018 Porsche Boxster 718 Roadster will be raffled off at the end of the night.

“It’s really a unique (event) in the community,” said Tina Pasquale, development coordinator. “We want to encourage people to talk about Boys & Girls Club and the good things that we’ve got going on, but also to meet people and laugh and have a great time.”

Close to 400 tickets have already been sold for the event, Pasquale said. It will feature two Elvis impersonators, a wedding chapel, 20 storefronts, silent and live auctions, performances by the Kingsport Theatre Guild and a mock casino featuring blackjack and other games.

“It’s on Mother’s Day weekend, so it’s a great opportunity for people,” Pasquale said. “You can come and get remarried, and you can get married by Elvis. We’re going over the top.”

Pasquale added that the event is not a standard gala, but rather a chance for the guests to take “a trip around the world.” Guests are encouraged to dress according to the theme, and the food is always authentic to the theme location.

“One year was Paris, one year was New York, one year was Rome and this year is Las Vegas,” Pasquale said. “We really take it to the next level like you’re really (there).”

Pasquale said the raffle has been a longstanding tradition that people in the community have come to expect. Over 700 tickets have already been sold, and a limited number are available.

“We’ve been doing the raffle for 12 years now, and it’s usually the signature red Porsche,” Pasquale said. “We actually have people from all over the country who buy a ticket or several tickets; some people buy 10 tickets at a time. We only sell 1,300 tickets, so the chances are excellent for everybody.”

The raffle is sponsored by Rick Hill Imports, and participants do not need to be present at the gala to win, Pasquale said.

Tickets for the gala and the raffle are $100 each. They can be purchased online at www.kbgc.org, over the phone at (423) 230-4160 or in person at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport, located at 1 Positive Place.

The deadline to purchase tickets is May 9, but those who purchase a gala ticket can purchase a raffle ticket at the event, Pasquale said.

Why you should come

Pasquale said proceeds from both the gala and the raffle will benefit the Boys & Girls Club’s main Kingsport site, in addition to its four other local sites in Cloud, Riverside, Hawkins County and Scott County.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Pasquale said. “You’re talking Las Vegas and the casino and everything, but what it really boils down to is trying to raise as much money as we can for these kids.”
