The organization will hold a free medical and dental event next week at the Glenwood Campus of Indian Springs Baptist Church, located at 2601 E. Center St.
The event will be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 1 and 2, from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Patients will be seen by appointment only, and appointments can be made by calling the church at (423) 323-2187 during normal business hours.
The organization will provide blood pressure and blood sugar checks as well as dental X-rays and regular dental checkups with a dental hygienist and dentist. The Appalachian Miles for Smiles unit is limited to 100 patients, 50 per day.
Frank Waldo, founder of Appalachian Miles for Smiles, started the organization in April of 2016. Now, more than 2,500 people per year have an opportunity to receive free dental work that they wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.
“When (Waldo) approached me and explained the program, it was a no-brainer of a decision for us,” said Tiger Brooks, pastor of the ISBC Glenwood Campus, in a press release. “Our goal is to cultivate eternal relationships with folks in our community, and what better way to get that relationship started than by helping meet basic needs?”
