Craig Winchell, of Wise, who won last year’s two-day tournament with a 2-under 140, will be among those taking part in the 87th annual event, the longest running tournament in the Tri-Cities region.
Winchell also won the tournament title in 2016 after defeating David Cantrell in a playoff.
The tournament is part of the Tri-Cities Amateur Tour.
This year’s Lonesome Pine Invitational lists 70 entries, with 17 scheduled to compete in the championship flight.
Along with Winchell, the flight will include past champs Mike McCall and Garland Green, along with Invitational record holder Bill Sergent III, who owns nine Invitational championships.
Sergent has also won Lonesome Pine Invitational senior titles. LPCC general manager and club pro Chris Stacy said Friday that Sergent and fellow seniors champion Mike Poe are scheduled to play in the championship flight this year.
Tony Green and Mike Haney headline the seniors flight as top contenders.
With several participants in both the championship and senior flights, Stacy said the weekend tournament will be a good one.
“We’re excited. We’ve got a strong field this year with some tough competition.”
The first group is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m.
