Wayne wins Arby's Classic title in a blowout

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Party on, Wayne.

Wayne, Ohio, shot at a torrid pace to easily defeat Tift County, Ga., in Thursday’s championship game of the 33rd annual Arby’s Classic basketball tournament.

The Warriors hit 28 of 43 (65.1 percent) of their shots from the field, including 9 of 16 (56.3 percent) from 3-point range, to beat the Blue Devils 72-47 at Viking Hall.

Rodrick Caldwell, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, led the way with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Trey Landers, a 6-foot-5 senior who was named the tournament MVP, went 6-for-7 and scored 16 points.

Area players selected to the all-tournament team were Patrick Good and Dustin Day of David Crockett, Zac Ervin of Gate City and Garrett Crandell of Tennessee High.
