Wayne Hale, champion again

staff reports • Updated Sep 20, 2015 at 5:27 PM

COEBURN — Wayne Hale claimed his second career Late Model title on Saturday at Lonesome Pine Raceway, his first since 2007.

Hale visited victory lane twice this season en route to the 2015 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track championship.

Hale was ecstatic with his return to the rank of champion.

“It feel great to be a champion again,” Hale said in a release from the track. “It’s been a long time coming.

“It’s been a good year," he added. We’ve been real consistent and won a few races. I thought I was dried up it had been so long. We’ve had a good season at both tracks and my brother (William Hale) winning the Rookie Pure 4 title just adds to it."

Kres VanDyke fought off Lance Gatlin to win the 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock race for his 12th victory of the season.

“That was some good racing,” VanDyke said of his late-race battle with Gatlin. “Very exciting for the fans."

Jared Broadbent captured the Modified Street track championship with his runner-up finish to Joe White on Saturday. White's victory was his first this year.

Dan Hall won the Pure 4 race for the fourth time in 2015, capturing the division title.

Rocky Yates took the Mod 4 win and championship.

William Hale joined his brother as track champion with the title, and the win, in Rookie Pure 4.

Marty Tunnell closed out the season with a victory in the Pure Street event. Nasty Jones captured the division crown.
